DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
56TH LOGISTICS READINESS SQUADRON (AETC)
LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, ARIZONA
MEMORANDUM FOR 56 FW/RMO
FROM: 56 LRS/CC
SUBJECT: Fuels Support for Gila Bend Auxiliary Air Field
1. This Memorandum of Understanding is entered between the 56th Range Management Office
(RMO) and 56th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS), Fuels Management Flight, for the purpose of providing refueling vehicles in support of the Barry M. Goldwater Bomb Range.
a. The 56 LRS Fuels Flight currently provides two R-11 refueling units to the 56 RMO, to accommodate refueling and defueling for aircraft utilizing the bombing range.
b. To accommodate defuels, one of the two R-11s must be limited to an inventory of 4,000 gallons to facilitate defuel operations.
c. In the event an aircraft requiring more than 2,000 gallons of defuel support and/or suspected contamination, the respective AMU will contact the 56 LRS Fuels Service Center
(FSC) at 623-856-7392.
d. The AMU will provide the aircraft’s squadron, fuel grade, tail number, quantity, and reason for defuel from the squadron maintenance personnel and pass the information to the FSC.
e. The FSC will contact the appropriate AMU to verify initial information received and obtain the departure time for personnel proceeding to Gila Bend. Fuels personnel will accompany them, if possible.
f. The FSC will dispatch a certified operator in a defuel unit and an expeditor to Gila Bend to perform the defuel operation.
g. The FSC will contact Gila Bend Transient Alert (TA) at 623-856-5204/5258 and instruct them to notify the Gila Bend fuels standby personnel of the defuel operation. (Informational purposes only).
2. This Memorandum of Understanding will become effective upon signature of both parties. It may be terminated at any time by mutual written consent.
