Shirt lots shall be tested as specified in paragraph 4.4.1.1.3 and the sample unit shall be one shirt selected at random from the end item lot. The test specimens shall not be cut for testing from each shirt. A single result of failure in any of the specified tests shall be recorded as a lot failure.
4.4.1.1.1 Permanent crease resistance tests. The shirt samples shall be evaluated for permanent crease resistance to dry heat (3 exposures) in accordance with AATCC TM117 at a minimum of 400 degree F and perchloroethylene solvent (3 exposures) in accordance with AATCC TM132.
4.4.1.1.2 Permanency of crease test. The permanent crease test specimen shall be soaked for 30 minutes in water containing a minimum amount of suitable wetting agent to thoroughly wet out the cloth. The temperature of the water shall be 165 (± 5) degrees F. The wet out specimens shall be removed without squeezing and shall be air dried or dried at a temperature not exceeding 180 degrees F, while laying flat on an absorbent surface such as paper hand toweling or kitchen type tissue. The wet out and dried out specimens shall be compared with the unwetted sample prepared in the same manner. The sharpness of the crease on the test specimen shall not be less than that of the unwetted sample. Results shall be reported as “pass” or “fail”.
4.4.1.1.3 Permanent crease appearance (initial). The permanent creases for the finished shirts shall be evaluated in accordance with AATCC TM143. The crease appearance for the finished shirts shall be a scale rating of 3.0 (± 0.5).
