Tantalum Additional Pre-Proposal Conference Question 11 Feb 2019
SP8000-19-R-0004
The following is an additional question and answer from the Pre-Proposal Conference for Solicitation SP8000-19-0004, held on February 11, 2019, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am EST.
10. At what weight percent of U + Th is the material considered radioactive?
Response: The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has deemed material with a weight percent U + Th of 0.050% or greater as requiring a radioactive license. Please refer the proponent to the tables in Sections 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 of the SOW. In order for the material to be considered nonradioactive, it must be below 0.050% U + Th (Table 1). Once it reaches 0.050% U + Th, it is considered radioactive (requiring a license).
Strategic Materials will not accept material with a U + Th content greater than 2.0%.
