About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a virtual reality welding simulator. The agency, the Department of the Air Force Air Mobility Command, is seeking a welding virtual reality training simulator with specific capabilities, including a touchscreen monitor, VR headset, various welding devices, different welding coupons, and a workstation that provides practice in all welding positions. The machine must simulate GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding processes, and display realistic welding puddle visuals, sounds, and movements.

The SOW outlines the key requirements and features of the simulator, including built-in curriculum, instruction books, and the ability to track and score welding technique parameters. The period of performance to fulfill this request is within 60 days after award. The simulator will be delivered to the Joint Base MDL, NJ location and set up by the 87LRS VM Training office. No government-furnished property will be provided.

Statement of Work (SOW)

Background We strive to drastically improve our training program for hands-on skill-building and welding performance. The integration of a virtual reality welding simulator will be the corner stone of this program. This training simulator produces realistic welding puddle visuals, accurate sounds, and movements. What can be learned virtually with a welding simulator seamlessly transfers into real-world applications, hands-on welding just as aircraft flight simulators do for pilots.

This machine will allow us to meet deployment tasking requests for vehicle mechanics proficient in welding.

Scope We expect to be provided with a welding virtual reality training simulator as descried in the tasks section below.

Objectives The vendor will provide one welding virtual reality training simulator with all the accessories and capabilities listed in the Tasks section of this document.

Tasks The requirements of this virtual reality welding simulator are:

• The machine must include a touchscreen monitor large enough for student and instructor review

• VR Headset

• VR Welding Devices must realistically represent the actual hand held welding devices used in the following process:

• GMAW / FCAW – MIG Wire Welding Gun

• SMAW – Retractable Stick Stinger

• GTAW - TIG Torch and Filler with Adaptive Foot Pedal

• Oxy-Acetylene welding tips and cutting torch

• Different Welding Coupons

• Flat Plate

• Tee Joint

• Lap Joint

• V-Grove Joint

• Various diameter pipe

• Work station that provides practice in all welding positions:

• Flat

• Horizontal

• Vertical

• Overhead

• Built in curriculum on:

• SMAW Welding

• GMAW/FCAW

• Welding Standards, Safety, Measurement and Principles of

Welding

• Oxy-Acetylene torch set up and cutting.

• Instruction books:

• Student Workbook

• Instructor Guide

• Proper Machine Set Up

The simulator system is equipped with the following key features:

• Realistic puddle image and welding sound

• Simulated sparks, slag, grinding and weld cooling imagery.

• Displays welding scoring when improper welding technique is used.

• Virtual bend test that reveal what caused a weld to pass or fail.

• Requires students to enter the proper machine settings for different material type, process, and allows instructor to change tolerances.

• Tracks and scores key weld technique parameters.

• Provide demos of successful welds.

• Has a replay mode for instructor and student evaluation of weld pass.

Simulates the following processes:

• GMAW

• SMAW

• GTAW

In the following positions:

Flat, vertical, horizonal, overhead, On Mild Steel, Stainless Steel and Aluminum

Using the 7 different Joint Configuration Coupons listed above.

This machine must meet the following power source speciation’s listed below:

Input Current 4A at 115
