HOT WORK PERMIT

Hot Work Permits are required when any heat, spark or smoke producing operations are conducted in areas not specifically designed for these operations. Specific examples of Hot Work include, but are not limited to: Torch cutting, welding, soldering, grinding, brazing, and open tar operations. All hot work must be performed in accordance with AC3900. 21f Chapter 24, Fire Protection.

Due to the high hazard associated with hot work in areas not designated for hot work it should be avoided whenever possible. Consider the following before issuing a hot work permit:

• Is it possible to move hot work to an area designed for hot work, equipped with all of the necessary controls?

• Can alternative processes to hot work be used in place of hot work? (e.g. glue, screws, bolts)

SECTION 01 33 00 - SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. Submittals are required, as indicated on drawings, specifications, and appendices, for any material and equipment that will be replaced, rebuilt or repaired as part of the elevator refurbishment.

1.2 REFERENCES

1.3 DEFINITIONS

A. Submittal Definition: Shop drawings, product data, samples, administrative and closeout submittals, and additional data presented for review and approval. Contract clauses referring to material, workmanship specifications and drawings for construction must apply to all submittals.

B. Types of Submittals

1. Shop Drawings. As used in this Section, drawings, schedules, diagrams, and other data prepared specifically for this contract, by the Contractor or through the Contractor by way of a subcontractor, manufacturer, supplier, distributor, or other lower tier contractor, to illustrate a portion of the work.

2. Product Data. Preprinted material such as illustrations, standard schedules, performance charts, instructions, brochures, diagrams, manufacturer's descriptive literature, catalog data, and other data to illustrate a portion of the work, but not prepared exclusively for this Contract. Information such as mix design, material characteristics, and similar data is included herein.

3. Administrative and Closeout Submittals. Submittals of data for which reviews and approval will be to ensure that the administrative requirements of the project are adequately met but not to ensure directly that the work is in accordance with the design concept and in compliance with the contract documents.

C. Approving Authority: Contracting Officer (CO)

D. Work: As used in this Section, the construction required by the contract documents, including labor necessary to produce the construction and materials, products, equipment, and systems incorporated or to be incorporated in such construction and including materials, products, equipment, and systems produced both on-and off-site.

SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES 01 33 00 - 2 of 5

1.4 PROCEDURES FOR SUBMITTALS

A. Limits and Constraints Regarding Submittals

1. Submittals must be complete for each portion of the work; components of the work interrelated as a system must be submitted at the same time.

2. The work must conform to approved submittals, as implied with the acceptance of the contractor’s proposal, except Contractor must conform to the contract requirements and resubmit the submittal if a previously approved submittal has an error or omission.

3. Submittals considered incomplete must be returned to the contractor for revision and resubmission. Failure to resubmit within 10 working days from resubmittal request may disqualify proposal.

B. Substitutions: Substitutions from contract requirements require Government approval and will be considered where advantageous to the Government. Where substitutions are proposed for consideration, submit a written request, with documentation of the nature and features of the substitution and why the substitution is desirable and beneficial to the Government. The proposed substitution must be identified separately and included along with the required submittal for the item. When a substitution is submitted for approval, the Contractor warrants the following:

1. Substitution Is Compatible: The Contract has been reviewed to establish that the substitution, when incorporated, will be compatible with other elements of the work.

1. Contractor is Responsible: The Contractor must take action and bear the additional cost, including review costs by the Government, necessary because of the proposed substitution.

C. Contractor's Responsibilities:

1. Determine and verify field measurements, materials, field construction criteria; review each submittal; and check and coordinate each submittal with requirements of the work and Contract documents.

2. Ensure that material is clearly legible. Ensure required specialty stamps are affixed and signed.

3. Stamp each sheet of each submittal with the Contractor's certificating stamp, except that data submitted in bound volume or on one sheet printed on two sides may be stamped on the front of the first sheet only. Word the submittal stamp as follows:

"I hereby certify that the (equipment) (material) (article) shown and marked in this submittal is that proposed to be incorporated into Contract Number ________________, is in compliance with the specifications, can be installed in the allocated spaces, and is submitted for Government approval.

Certified by_______________________ Date ______________________"

4. Sign the Contractor's certification. The person signing the certification must be one designated in writing by the Contractor as having that authority. The signature must be in original ink. Stamped signatures are not acceptable.

5. Furnish additional copies of submittals if requested by the CO.
