About this file

This Statement of Work outlines requirements for installing a replacement air conditioning unit at NASA's Global Hawk Mobile Operation Facility (GHMOF), which is a transportable facility used to control unmanned Global Hawk aircraft. The GHMOF requires a one-for-one replacement of a failed Bard wall-mounted A/C unit to restore the facility's primary and backup air conditioning configuration needed for cooling electronic equipment and personnel during flight operations.

The contractor must install a 5-ton heat pump Bard A/C unit at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, CA, with delivery required by April 1, 2025. The unit must utilize existing ducting, mounting locations, wiring, and A/C controller connections. Technical specifications include 230V 3-phase 60 Hz AC power on a 50-amp circuit, with no electric heat or vent package required. The contractor's scope includes mounting, installation, connection to power and controls, servicing, and operational testing of the new unit.

STATEMENT OF WORK

1. Background The Global Hawk Mobil Operation Facility (GHMOF) is a transportable facility that is designed to command and control an unmanned Global Hawk aircraft while deployed at various locations. It contains all the electronic equipment to communicate with the aircraft as well as the pilot’s controls and displays. Due to the heat generated by the electronic equipment and the outside air temperatures, the interior needs to be cooled for normal operations.

The GHMOF was designed with two wall mount Bard air conditioner (A/C) systems, one functions as a backup, to keep the electronic equipment and personnel cool during flight operations. One of the two A/C units has failed and was removed from the GHMOF.

The NASA Sky Range project would like to replace the failed A/C unit to maintain the primary and backup air conditioner configuration.

2. Objective/Requirements NASA Sky Range has a requirement to install an air conditioning system on the GHMOF to replace the failed unit. The desire is to make this a one-for-one replacement that uses the same mounting location, power requirements, controls, and cooling requirements.

3. Characteristics, Scope, and Specs

The contractor shall perform the following duties:

Mount and install a new wall mount Bard A/C unit on the GHMOF using the existing ducting.

Utilize existing air supply and return duct dimensions and mounting locations.

Using the existing wiring, connect the A/C unit to the power supplied by the

GHMOF.

Connect the unit to the A/C controller inside the GHMOF.

Service the A/C unit and test its operation in the GHMOF.

HVAC Unit Specifications o 5 Ton Heat Pump o 230V 3 phase 60 Hz AC power on 50-amp circuit o No Electric Heat o No Vent Package o Note: Existing Bard unit on the GHMOF can be assessed for further details.

4. Place of Performance NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center Edwards, CA 93523
