About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a high-energy small pixel detector required for the CHEX 28-ID beamline at the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade (APS-U) project.
The SOW details the technical requirements for the detector, including specifications for pixel size, bad pixels, energy thresholds, responsivity variation, sensor material, weight, dimensions, count rate, and cabling. The detector must be supplied with a control computer that can deliver its full performance, and the vendor must provide installation services. The detector must be delivered within six months of contract award.
The successful vendor must demonstrate the detector meets all technical requirements during acceptance testing at Argonne National Laboratory, including X-ray flood field measurements, energy threshold scans, and long-term data acquisition stability testing. The detector comes with a 12-month warranty after installation. This procurement opportunity is being issued by the Department of Energy Office of Science.

Introduction
The CHEX 28-ID beamline requires high-energy small pixel, pixel array detector with CdTe sensor for coherent surface scattering.
Scope Details
· Pixel Array Detector (1)
· Cabling sets (2)
· Optional: Control computer (1)
· If the vendor elects not to supply the control computer then the vendor must test the performance of the detector with the control computer supplied by the APS-U
· Installation: Detector installation should be listed as a separate line item in the proposal Technical Requirements
The vendor must supply a detector control computer that can deliver the full performance of the detector. The requirements for the detector are detailed.
CHEX Detectors 28-ID-DT-2
· Pixel size <= 55 microns
· Size: 750k – 1.5M pixels
· Frame Rate
· >= 2000 Hz, 12-bit, continuous
· Bad pixels < 0.5%
· Minimum threshold < 5 keV
· Number of energy thresholds > 1
· Maximum pixel-to-pixel responsivity variation < 1% (5-100kev)
· Maximum Gap between ASICs: 3.3 mm
· Sensor: CdTe > 700 microns
· Weight < 5 kg
· Maximum physical dimensions (W x H x D): 115mm x 100mm x 250mm
· Maximum count rate: > 3e5 photons/second/pixel
· Cable lengths
· Two sets of >20 m cables and two sets of cooling water hoses. The cooling water hoses should also be at least 15 m long.
· Two sets of power supplies.
· Environment: ambient
· Final cable lengths and feedthroughs are to be approved by the APS-U technical representative at the Final Design Review and prior to manufacture.
· EPICS: AreaDetector driver that is part of https://github.com/areaDetector Schedule Detector shall be delivered within six months of the award of the contract.
Quality Assurance Requirements Successful acceptance of detector at ANL will depend on satisfaction of all the technical requirements listed in previous section. Beamline representatives and APS-U staff will make this determination. In particular, we will take X-ray flood field measurements with a sealed source (Fe55) to verify the number of bad pixels and energy thresholds. We will scan the energy threshold below 5 keV to confirm the minimum threshold is achieved on 99% of the pixels. Using the vendor and EPICS areaDetector software, we will acquire dark images at the various frame rates/bit-depth combinations to confirm the long-term (~ 24 hours) stability of the data acquisition system; we will monitor for dropped frames.
All electrically energized systems shall be listed by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). A NRTL list can be found at https://www.osha.gov/dts/otpca/nrtl. All connections and terminations need to be NFPA 70 latest edition compliant. If integrated assemblies of electrical components have not been tested, the vendor must be able to demonstrate that the assemblies or individual components have been constructed according to applicable standards such as those associated with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers International (SEMI), or comparable standards organizations located outside the United States. If the system is not listed by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s NRTL Database, it will be inspected by the ANL Designated Electrical Equipment Inspectors (DEEI) program.
The following criteria will be used for determining acceptance:
· Written report verifying that the inspection data meets the requirements.
· No shipping damages.
· Passes visual inspection for anomalies.
· Written correspondence by the supplier of any deviations using the APS-U Supplier Disposition Report (SDR) form, as required.
Warranty The manufactured components shall be warranted for 12 months after installation at the 28-ID beamline endstation.
Installation On-site installation of the detectors at the APS endstation will be carried out by the vendor. Beamline representatives and APS-U staff will be available to assist in the acceptance and installation process.
Upon arrival at ANL, vendor personnel shall take ANL Contractor Safety Training and satisfy all APS-U safety requirements before beginning installation and any other work activities associated with the installation and testing procedures. A half day should be allocated at the beginning of the installation for ANL Contractor Safety Training and a pre-job safety briefing and inspection.
Protection of Materials and Equipment During Shipment
The detector shall be delivered to the APS-U in a manner that protects the product from any damage.
