iii. Apply self-adhered underlayment (ice and water shield) over the drip edge at eaves for valleys and low-slope areas. Ensure shingles overhang the drip edge by 1/4 to 3/4 inch.

e. Lead Flashing and Elastomeric Vent Boots Installation

i. Clean surfaces and apply asphalt roofing cement where flashing contacts the deck or shingles. Form lead to fit contours using a mallet or hand tools without sharp bends.

ii. Step Flashing (for Walls or Chimneys): Install individual pieces interwoven with each shingle course. Place flashing against the wall, extending at least 4 inches onto the roof deck and 4 inches up the wall. Nail or clip at the top edge only, then cover with counterflashing or siding. Overlap adjacent pieces by 2-4 inches, sealing with cement.

iii. Form lead apron or saddle around pipes or vents, embedding in cement and overlapping underlayment by 4 inches. Integrate with vent boots if applicable.

iv. Elastomeric boot: Cut the boot's top to fit the pipe diameter snugly

v. Slide the boot over the pipe from the top. Position the base flange flat on the underlayment or deck, under surrounding shingles.

vi. Nail the flange every 6-8 inches around the perimeter, 1 inch from the edge. Apply elastomeric sealant under the flange and around the pipe base.

If using a clamp, tighten at the top for a watertight seal.

vii. Lay shingles over the flange, sealing edges with roofing cement. Ensure upstream shingles overlap the boot by at least 2 inches.
