Statement of Work (SOW)
1. Project Title
Service and Maintenance of Lorrca Machines (RR Mechatronics ) for Red Cell Physiology Assays
2. Introduction and Background
Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited hemoglobin disorder characterized by abnormal red blood cell deformability, increased rigidity, and sickling of red blood cells, leading to vaso-occlusion and hemolysis. These changes in red cells contribute to recurrent pain episodes, progressive organ damage, and a range of other clinical complications associated with the disease.
The Lorrca Machine is a specialized instrument used to assess red blood cell deformability and aggregation under varying shear stress and oxygenation conditions, providing detailed insights into red cell physiology. Lorrca measurements are particularly valuable for quantifying disease severity and monitoring functional improvements in red blood cells in SCD. These assays are also highly relevant to monitor the effectiveness of treatment in SCD.
3. Statement of Need and Objectives
Red cell physiology assays using the Lorrca Machine are highly sensitive and provide valuable insights into disease severity and prognosis in Sickle Cell Disease. Proper maintenance and regular servicing of the instrument are essential to ensure optimal performance and reliable results.
