Travel – Site Conditions at Parashant National Monument

Access to the work site is by unimproved, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Mohave County, AZ maintained roads.

The condition of the roads varies depending on the time of year and can be in fair to poor condition. It is recommended that vehicles be equipped with load range E tires designed for off pavement use. Vehicles are prone to flat tires and mechanical breakdown due to poor road conditions.

Due to the sheer size of the region and the number of roads, it is not possible to provide updated travel conditions on the Arizona Strip after rain or snow. Expect all roads to be impassible after wet weather. During the summer monsoon season (June - September), it is better to travel in the morning. Storms usually occur after 1 pm. Roads may be impassable for a day or more due to mud. Vehicles frequently get stuck in the mud and need a tow companies assistance for removal. Range cattle as well as other wildlife may also be encountered on the roads and caution is recommended, and not to exceed speed limits are recommended as well.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The Dellenbaugh Administrative site is an isolated, remote location. Environmental conditions (weather and impassable roads) limit outdoor construction activities to April 15 to November 15. There are no medical facilities within the area, with the closest medical facilities being 90 miles away via the road system. There is no vehicle maintenance services or fuel available at the site.

There are no other amenities located in the area including motels, hotels, grocery stores, entertainment, restaurants, etc. All food and fuel must be transported to the site by and at contractor’s expense.

Cellular telephone coverage is limited to a few sporadic locations within the monument. Satellite Phone or Satellite Messenger such as a Garmin InReach is required for communication. There is no cellular, landline, cable, or public internet service at the Dellenbaugh Administrative Site.

Lodging is not available at the Dellenbaugh Administrative Site. Contractor will provide own lodging (trailer, motorhome, tent).

Dispersed recreation camping is available on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands near the job site. There are no services such as water, electricity, sewer connection, dump station, trash pickup, or tables provided in dispersed camping areas. A portable toilet, provided and services by , the contractor, is required at the camping location.
