About this file

This is a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the Buck Wild Stewardship Project issued by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The solicitation is for a firm fixed-price commercial items service contract to perform forest health improvement services in Montana, including understory removal and road work across approximately 263 acres located 19 miles northeast of Bonner. The project involves commercial thinning and removal of an estimated 8,886 tons of sawlogs and non-saw material, with a target of reducing understory density and improving forest health.

Key solicitation details include a small business set-aside, a NAICS code of 115310 with a $11.5 million size standard, and a 39-month period of performance from July 21, 2025 to October 20, 2025. Electronic quotations are due by July 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm MDT, with a site visit scheduled for July 1, 2025 at 10:00 am MT. The evaluation will consider two non-price factors - technical approach and relevant experience - which are significantly more important than price. Interested contractors must submit technical and price sections separately, with detailed requirements for each section outlined in Section L of the solicitation.

ii. Target WL and PP for retention above all other species. Species preference for retention will be WL>PP >LP>DF>SAF.

iii. Remove trees exhibiting insect damage, symptoms of disease or pathogens, less than 30% crown ratio, lacking conical shape or with poor canopy density.

iv. In areas of LP exclusively, reduce stem spacing to 25’ with 40% variablilty (+ or – 10’). LP stem spacing can and should vary from 15 to 35 feet.

v. Retain biological legacies, such as large healthy trees, large decadent trees, snags, logs, and other coarse woody debris on the forest floor.

c. Utilization Specifications
