SITKA NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK

FIRE ALARM PANELS AND LOCATIONS

Priest Quarters Building 103 Monastery Street, Sitka, AK Fire Alarm Panel Location: Downstairs Basement

Buildings Historic Significance:

The Priest’s House is not listed on the National Historic Landmark Register. The building’s architectural heritage and pedigree is not clean enough to be considered a historically significant structure, but it is still an important building. Park staff are currently working on updating nomination documents to include the building and associated landscape on the register. Care should be exercised in installing any equipment and infrastructure (exterior) to ensure that it does not detract from the structure’s appearance.

All proposed equipment and infrastructure installation locations and appearances must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate site authorities prior to commencing work.

Old School Building Fire Alarm Panel Location: First floor – utility closet

The Old School is in the Russian Bishop’s House park unit. The structure resides on the same lot and is located approximately 20 feet due East of the Russian Bishop’s House. The East side of the building abuts the Pacific High School property. The structure has two floors, a first-floor support area and second floor housing offices and library.

The Old School Building is listed on the National Historic Landmark Register. Therefore, equipment and infrastructure should be installed in a manner that minimizes visual and architectural impact on the structure. All security equipment and infrastructure installed in or on the building must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate historical preservation authorities prior to commencing work.

The Sitka NHP Visitor Center is an important historic building (built in 1966) that serves as the “face” of the park. The Visitor Center and its associated designed landscape are eligible for and is in the process of being nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places. Therefore, great care should be exercised in installing security equipment and infrastructure (both interior and exterior) to ensure that it does not detract from the structure’s appearance. All proposed equipment and infrastructure installation locations and appearances must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate site authorities prior to commencing work.
