About this file
This is a specification document for Cast-in-Place Concrete work, Section 03300, applicable to the City of Plant City's Communication Tower Generator Replacement project in Florida. The scope of work encompasses the design, planning, and completion of cast-in-place concrete installation, including waste removal, material salvage, installation of expansion joints, inserts, sleeves, anchor bolts, and other embedded items. The work must comply with ACI standards (ACI 301, 306, 308, 318, 605, and 614) and ASTM C94 specifications for ready-mixed concrete. Concrete requirements specify Portland cement Type II per ASTM C150, coarse aggregates with a Cleanness Value of not less than 75, and fine aggregates with a Sand Equivalent of not less than 75. The standard concrete class calls for 3/4-inch maximum aggregate size, 4-inch maximum slump, and minimum 28-day compressive strength of 3,000 psi.
Execution requirements mandate that concrete be cast in-place according to referenced standards and specifications, with a minimum of 3 inches of concrete between electrical ducts and earth and 2 inches minimum encasement around conduit. All embedded materials must be properly positioned and installed, and work must be maintained to safely support all applied loads until the structure achieves adequate strength. Concrete must be carefully spaded during pours to prevent voids, with continuous pouring between termination points. Reinforcement is required in duct banks passing through disturbed earth, near buildings, or crossing roads. Sampling and testing by an independent, Owner-approved testing service is mandatory, including slump tests prior to casting, breakage strength tests at 7-day and 28-day cures, and in-place load tests after full strength cure completion.

SECTION 03300
CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE OF WORK
A. Designing, planning and completion of the Work, in accordance with the requirements and intent of these Contract Documents, and to the satisfaction of the Owner. The
Work includes:
1. Prompt cleanup, removal, safe and proper disposal of all waste material resulting from the Work herein.
2. Prompt and proper removal, salvage, protection, storage and turnover to the
Owner of all surplus useable material resulting from the Work herein.
3. Installation of all expansion joint materials, inserts, sleeves, anchor bolts and other items to be embedded in cast-in-place concrete, including all inserts, sleeves, anchor bolts and other items furnished in accordance with other sections of the
Work.
4. Sampling and Testing of the cast-in-place concrete performed by an independent testing service acceptable to and approved by the Owner.
1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Comply with the requirements and recommendations set forth in the current publications and addenda thereto of the following standards:
1. ACI 301, "Specification for Structural Concrete for Buildings".
2. ACI 306, "Recommended Practice for Cold Weather Concreting".
3. ACI 308, "Curing Concrete".
4. ACI 318, "Building Code Requirements for Reinforced Concrete".
5. ACI 605, "Recommended Practice for Hot Weather Concrete".
6. ACI 614, "Recommended Practice for Measuring, Mixing and Placing Concrete".
7. ASTM C94, "Specification for Ready-Mixed Concrete".
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Provide Submittals in conformance with:
1. Section _____, Submittals
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Cement: Portland cement, ASTM C150, Type II, unless otherwise indicated. The same brands of cement shall be used throughout.
B. Coarse Aggregates: Cleanness Value of not less than 75 when tested as per CMM-Test
Method No. Calif. 227.
03300-2 Cast-in-Place Concrete
C. Fine Aggregates: Sand Equivalent of not less than 75 when tested per CMM-Test
Method No. Calif. 217
D. Combined Aggregates: Exact proportions of fine aggregates and coarse aggregates to be used in mix shall be determined by mix design.
E. Provide the following Concrete Classes unless otherwise indicated:
1. Maximum Size of Aggregates (inches) 3/4
2. Maximum Slump (in.) 4
3. Minimum 28-day Strength (psi) 3,000
PART 3 EXECUTION
A. INSTALLATION
1. Cast the concrete in-place to comply with requirements and recommendations set forth in the referenced Standards, and to sizes, shapes, lines and dimensions required for the Work, and as required to obtain accurate alignment, location, grades, level and plumb with the finished structures.
2. Provide not less than 3 inches of concrete between the outside of an electrical duct and the earth. Provide not less than 2 inches of concrete minimum encasement around the conduit. Where duct lines pass through concrete walls, concrete envelopes shall be extended through and finished flush with inside surfaces.
Provide watertight construction joints using water stops.
3. Position and install all expansion joint materials, inserts, sleeves, anchor bolts and other items to be embedded in cast-in-place concrete, including all expansion joint materials, inserts, sleeves, anchor bolts and other items furnished in accordance with other sections of the Work.
4. Maintain the Work to safely support all loads applied, including testing loads, until such loads can be satisfactorily supported by the structure.
5. Maintain the work to cure properly and safely, until the curing is satisfactorily completed.
6. Use walls of trench to form sidewalls of duct bank where soil is self-supporting and concrete envelope can be poured without soil inclusions; otherwise, use forms.
7. Spade concrete carefully during pours to prevent voids under and between conduits and at exterior surface of envelope. Do not allow a heavy mass of concrete to fall directly onto ducts. Use a plank to direct concrete down sides of bank assembly to trench bottom. Allow concrete to flow to the center of bank and rise up in middle, uniformly filling all open spaces. Do not use power-driven agitating equipment unless specifically designed for duct-bank applications. Pour each run of envelope between manholes or other terminations in one continuous operation. If more than one pour is necessary, terminate each pour in a vertical plane and install 3/4-inch reinforcing rod dowels extending 18 inches into concrete on both sides of joint near corners of envelope.
8. Install reinforcement in duct banks passing through disturbed earth near buildings and other excavations or when crossing a road.
03300-3 Cast-in-Place Concrete
9. Sample and test the cast-in-place concrete, in accordance with the referenced
Standards herein and according to the Standards of Practice acceptable to the
Owner, and demonstrating satisfactory compliance with the Contract Document requirements, and including:
a. Provide slump tests immediately prior to casting.
b. Provide breakage strength tests at the 7-day cure, and 28-day cure.
c. Provide in-place load tests after the full strength cure is completed.
