PROJECT TITLE: Installation of aboveground fuel storage tanks
PROJECT NARRATIVE:
Two aboveground fuel storage tanks (ASTs) system are to be installed replacing the two existing underground storage tanks (USTs) which are at the end of their projected life of 20 years (installed in 1999) at Chain-O-Lakes State Park located in Lake and McHenry Counties. The project location is in Lake County. Although the current leak detection system has not indicated any leaks, the park wishes to preemptively replace the system with new ASTs. This scope of work document addresses only providing and installing the two new AST systems.
The existing UST system’s emergency light and electrical left in place shall be reused as much as possible for the new AST systems.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The contractor is requested to submit a lump sum bid for the project specified in this document. The contractor shall provide all equipment, materials and labor needed to install two new AST systems.
The project work will consist of installation of two new ASTs with dispensing systems, one system for unleaded fuel with storage capacity of approx. 1,500 gallons and the other system for diesel fuel with storage capacity of approx. 500 gallons. The new AST systems can be comprised of one larger AST, total capacity of approx. 2,000 gallons with a partition such that it can be divided into one larger compartment of approx. 1,500 gallons for storing and dispensing unleaded fuel and the other compartment of approx. 500 gallon for storing and dispensing diesel fuel. The AST system(s) are to be constructed within the main service area of the park, in the vicinity of existing park storage buildings, in compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations and guidance provided by OSFM.
The contractor shall install 6” thick reinforced concrete pad for the AST systems and over the excavated areas of the excavated UST systems, as shown in the attached sketch. The concrete slab shall be prepared and placed in accordance with Section 424 of the current IDOT Standard Specifications. Concrete reinforcements shall meet or exceed IDOT specifications 1006.10.
· There shall be two areas, each covering approximately 25’ x 30’ (6” thick) poured-in-place concrete pad, reinforced with 6x6–W2.9xW2.9 (also designated as 6x6–6x6) welded wire fabric (with #6 gauge wire).
· The slab thickness may need to be increased under the new AST system, working as a footing with extra supports, as per requirements of the tank manufacturer.
· Compact the aggregate base under the forms and cut to grade such that forms are uniformly supported for their entire length and are at the proper desired elevation.
· Concrete mix and deliver concrete in accordance with ASTM C94 and shall meet following criteria:
· 3500 psi minimum at 14 days
· 2”- 4” slump
· Air entrainment 5% - 8%
· Add control joints, to prevent cracking, and block-outs as needed.
· Keyway and dowel pinned in between each pour.
· Concrete finishing shall be a medium broom finish. Apply clear concrete sealer per IDOT Specifications Sec 587 and material specifications Sec 1026.
Contractor shall provide barricades for adequate safety protection during the work process.
Contractor shall also provide and keep a temporary aboveground diesel fuel storage tank to store the fuel at the site (capacity up to 200 gallon) during entire project work, until the new system is ready for use.
