Timberline (B Loop) OHV Trail Maintenance BPA Task Order Schedule of Items January 20, 2023

Scope of Work:

Work sites 1- 2 can be accessed from Forest Rd 335.

Normal Tread Maintenance: Maintain trail tread, including pulling in material from undesirable berms and reincorporating into tread, correcting damage that corrupts drainage pattern. The work will include reshaping the rail to the original insloped /outsloped or crowned condition and controlling surface drainage to prevent further degradation of the trail and compact all disturbed areas. All dips will be reconstructed. Maintain all existing ditches, dips and leadoff ditches as part of the trail tread maintenance. Normal maintenance will include reconditioning of trails with not more than 6” deep ruts or holes in the tread surface. The depth will be measured using a 60” straight-edge across the drivable surface and measuring the depth of ruts/holes from the bottom of the straight edge to the deepest depth of the ruts or holes. If more than 20% of the ruts in a section are over 6” deep, the section will be evaluated under heavy tread maintenance.

Heavy Tread Maintenance: This item will be used for heavily damaged trail tread that would require more than normal maintenance to return to original shape. Heavy maintenance will include areas that are deeply rutted, have large waterholes and drainage has been significantly changed and where more than normal amount of work is needed to repair. In all cases the trail is still defined but has significant reshaping to be performed. Heavy tread maintenance will include the following: Remove and reshape berms as needed, pulling in material from undesirable berms and reincorporating into tread and compacting, correcting damage that corrupts drainage pattern, reshaping the trail to the original insloped/outsloped condition and controlling surface drainage to prevent further degradation of the trail. All dips will be reconstructed as shown in the drawings. Maintain all existing ditches, dips, and leadoff ditches as part of the heavy trail tread maintenance. Use Heavy Tread maintenance if the ruts/holes are more than 6” and less than 18” deep as measured with a 60” straight-edge, and less than 30 CY of material needs to be moved over a 150’ length of trail.

Placement of drivable surface aggregate (DSA) Will Placed on compacted trail surface 4’ thick and 12’’ wide. It will be compacted using three passes and leaving a surface with a crown unless directed by COR. The DSA surface stone will stay within the limits directed by the prescription.

On sites prescribed placement of DSA and Heavy Maintenance will be completed on identified section of the Marienville ATV trail, maps of each section are included. Work locations will also be marked with green flagging at start points and red flagging at end points. This work will restore the trail to its original template. Work will include, removing slough and berm, filling ruts and troughs, reshaping trail tread, removing protruding rock, roots, stumps, and berms. This work will reclaim suitable materials that has been pushed to the edges of the trail. Trail surface will be bladed and shaped to original trail template or as directed by COR.

Pipe Culverts

Description Work. Work consists of furnishing and installing arch pipe culverts, including excavation and backfill, selecting and hauling of rock materials and constructing catch basins and headwalls.

Materials Requirements. Use materials meeting the requirements of the following sections:

Rock, Grid Pavement Units, and Aggregate Material for Timber Structures Drainage Pipe Culvert Geosynthetics

Construction Excavation and Embankment. Perform excavation and embankment in accordance with Placement. Place culverts to provide for unobstructed inlet and outlet flow. Remove logs, debris, soil, rock, and other obstructions above and below the culvert that would impede flow into the culvert or away from the trailway. Minimize disturbance to streambeds.

Construct a catch basin to facilitate flow from trail ditches into the culvert when

DESIGNATED ON THE GROUND BY THE COR.

Pipe Culverts. Install or repair pipe culverts at the locations SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS or as DESIGNATED ON THE GROUND BY THE COR.

(a) Placing. Place culverts at stream crossings on the natural stream banks or as DESIGNATED ON THE GROUND BY THE COR.

(b) Foundation. Excavate and remove all unsuitable material and rocks over 3 inches for the pipe culvert footings.

Firmly embed lower arch pipe culvert footings on stable foundation of undisturbed or compacted soil.

Backfilling Culverts. Backfill and compact in lifts around the arch culvert’s exterior chamber footing with suitable material that is free of rocks over 3 inches.

Headwalls. Install headwalls and nonwoven geotextile fabric between the backfill material and the rock headwall at the locations SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS or as

DESIGNATED ON THE GROUND BY THE COR.

Provide a compacted bench a minimum of 6 inches below the existing ground for the foundation of the headwall.

Select rocks that have a general rectangular shape with flat top and bottom faces. Place the largest rocks on the bottom. Lay each rock stable on the course that supports it, interlocking with surrounding rocks. Do not break, jar, or displace rocks already set. Place the exposed face of each rock parallel to the face of the wall. Stagger vertical joints a minimum of 4 inches horizontally from vertical joints in adjoining courses.
