About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document outlining the specifications for a prefabricated aluminum ramp installation project at Building 47 for the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration. The contractor must provide all tools, labor, and equipment necessary to install one premanufactured access ramp assembly consisting of two prefabricated ramp sections with a nominal combined length of 100 feet. The ramps must feature aluminum deck panels with non-skid surfaces measuring 48 to 56 inches in nominal width, transition landings with a 60-inch minimum length and width dimension, and compliance with accessibility standards including a maximum slope of 1/12 ratio and maximum cross slope of 1/48 ratio. The ramp system includes aluminum picket safety and grab rails on both sides measuring 34 to 38 inches in nominal height, integrated transition treads with edge guards, transition plates, extruded aluminum bridge plates, hurricane tiedown features, and extruded aluminum stanchion legs supported by concrete pilaster pads.
In addition to installation, the contractor is responsible for complete demolition and removal of the existing ramp systems and disposal of all construction-generated waste materials. All work must be performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including the VA Barrier Free Design Guide (PG-18-13), the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessibility, and other standards as required by the facility.
