Salient Characteristics Summary

This document is a Salient Characteristics (SC) specification for a heavy-duty industrial yard ramp and fixed-height docking platform system with a 50,000 lbs load capacity. The requirement calls for one integrated modular system consisting of a yard ramp and an interconnected fixed-height docking platform designed for outdoor military and industrial environments to safely load, unload, and stage heavy tactical and commercial wheeled vehicles and cargo.

The entire system must maintain a certified minimum dynamic load capacity of 50,000 lbs and be specifically rated to accommodate wide-track vehicles with wheel axle widths exceeding 72 inches. The yard ramp must be a minimum of 128 inches wide overall with a 120-inch usable runway width, at least 30 feet long, and feature adjustable height between 38 and 60 inches to align with various trailer heights. The ramp must include self-cleaning, high-traction open serrated steel grating, integrated safety curbs rising at least 7 inches, a 15-inch deep transition lip, heavy-duty safety anchor chains, and must not exceed 10,000 lbs in structural weight. The docking platform must be a minimum of 144 inches wide by 96 inches long with a fixed height of exactly 48 inches, feature solid steel diamond plate surface, integrated safety curbs rising at least 6 inches, lift sleeves for forklift relocation, and must not exceed 4,700 lbs in structural weight. Both components must be fabricated from heavy-duty structural steel with industrial-grade, corrosion-resistant finish suitable for harsh outdoor climates and must be fully compatible to lock together seamlessly forming a unified, wobble-free loading structure.

Salient Characteristics (SC)

Heavy-Duty Industrial Yard Ramp and Fixed-Height Docking

Platform System (50,000 lbs Capacity)

1. Scope of Requirement

This requirement is for a high-capacity, modular, heavy-duty vehicle loading and unloading system consisting of one (1) industrial yard ramp and one (1) interconnected, fixed-height docking platform. The system will be utilized in outdoor military and industrial environments to support the safe loading, unloading, and staging of heavy tactical and commercial wheeled vehicles and cargo.

The primary capability driver for this procurement is the safe accommodation of heavy vehicles and wide-track configurations (wheel axle widths exceeding 72 inches) under full dynamic payloads, requiring a certified structural capacity of no less than 50,000 lbs across all operating configurations.

2. Minimum Essential Technical & Physical Characteristics

A. System-Wide Load Capacity

To ensure maximum safety and structural integrity under heavy military and logistics traffic, the entire system must meet the following unified load capacity threshold:

Minimum Dynamic Capacity: Both the yard ramp and the docking platform must possess a certified minimum dynamic load capacity of 50,000 lbs.

Wide-Track Accommodation: The structure must be specifically rated to sustain this

50,000 lbs maximum load during the transit of wide-track vehicles with wheel track configurations 72 inches or greater.

B. Yard Ramp Technical Specifications

The yard ramp must serve as the primary incline transition from ground level to the docking platform and must possess the following physical specifications:

Overall Width: Must be a minimum of 128 inches to accommodate wide vehicle approaches.

Usable Runway Width: Must be a minimum of 120 inches (clear space between runoff curbs).

Overall Length: Must be a minimum of 30 feet to maintain a safe, gradual incline angle.

Adjustable Height Range: Must feature a variable height-adjustment system operating smoothly between 38 inches and 60 inches to align with different trailer heights.

Runway Surface: Must feature a self-cleaning, high-traction, open serrated steel grating to allow rain, snow, ice, and debris to fall through, ensuring continuous tire traction in all weather conditions.

Safety Curbs: Must feature integrated side runoff curbs rising a minimum of 7 inches above the runway surface.

Transition Lip: Must feature a minimum 15-inch deep overlap lip at the top of the ramp to bridge the gap to the platform or trailer bed securely.

Safety Anchor System: Must include integrated heavy-duty safety chains to securely anchor the ramp to the docking platform or trailer during loading operations.

Structural Weight: Total structural weight of the ramp must not exceed 10,000 lbs to facilitate manageable site placement.

C. Docking Platform Technical Specifications

The platform must serve as a stable, fixed-height staging and turning area at the top of the ramp incline and must possess the following physical specifications:

Platform Footprint Dimensions: Must be a minimum of 144 inches (12 feet) wide by 96 inches (8 feet) long to provide a sufficient turning radius.

Usable Operating Width: Must be a minimum of 136 inches (clear space between runoff curbs).

Operational Height: Must feature a fixed height of exactly 48 inches.

Support Base: Must feature robust, welded fixed-leg supports capable of bearing dynamic loading forces up to the 50,000 lbs capacity threshold.

Platform Surface: Must feature a solid steel treadplate (diamond plate) surface to ensure stable, slip-resistant foot traffic and vehicle maneuvers.

Safety Curbs: Must feature integrated side runoff curbs rising a minimum of 6 inches above the platform surface, including a welded runoff curb along the 8-foot (96") side.

Material Handling Integration: Must feature integrated lift sleeves (fork pockets) built into the frame to allow safe, rapid relocation of the platform using standard facility forklifts.

Structural Weight: Total structural weight of the platform must not exceed 4,700 lbs.

3. General Material, Construction, and Finish Requirements

Frame Construction: Frame and major structural members must be fabricated from heavy-duty structural steel rated for high-cycle industrial use.

Environmental Coating: All steel surfaces must be treated with an industrial-grade, corrosion-resistant finish (such as commercial-grade rust-inhibiting black paint) suitable for continuous outdoor exposure in harsh climates.

Interoperability: The yard ramp and platform must be fully compatible and lock together seamlessly to form a unified, wobble-free loading structure.
