About this file

This document details the Salient Characteristics for a Portable and Laboratory Calibration System for a government procurement. The system must provide a standardized, modular solution supporting both field and laboratory calibration operations, with stringent technical requirements. Key specifications include pressure measurement from vacuum to 15,000 psi across multiple pressure ranges, temperature calibration from -40°C to 1210°C, high-accuracy measurements (0.01% of full span), NVLAP ISO 17025 accredited standards, and comprehensive features like multifunction process calibrators, secondary standard RTDs and thermocouples, and calibration asset management software.

The purpose of this system is to reduce reliance on outsourced calibration services, increase mission assurance, and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards. The system must be fully modular, with components designed for integration, capable of enabling operational checks, sensor characterization, and validation of engineering unit conversions within Data Acquisition Units (DAUs). Critical components include hydraulic and pneumatic test pumps, hand-tight quick connectors, interchangeable probe inserts, HART communication-enabled process calibrators, and software that can automate calibration tasks while maintaining traceability requirements.

Salient Characteristics – Portable and Laboratory Calibration System Requirement:

The calibration system shall provide a standardized solution capable of supporting both field and laboratory operations. The system must deliver portable and static calibration capability in a single integrated package.

Minimum Salient Characteristics:

1. Accuracy

• Pressure and temperature calibration equipment shall achieve an accuracy of at least 0.01% of full span.

• All accuracy shall be traceable to NVLAP ISO 17025 accredited calibration standards.

• Certification data must be provided with delivery.

2. Pressure Measurement and Generation

• Pressure generation and measurement capability shall cover vacuum through 15,000 psi.

• Modular pressure ranges shall include, at a minimum:

• 0–1,000 psi

• 0–5,000 psi

• 0–10,000 psi

• The system must support both gauge and compound pressure measurements.

3. Manifold Capability

• Hydraulic and pneumatic manifolds shall allow integration of multiple 1/4

NPT connections.

• Must utilize hand-tight quick connectors for efficient reconfiguration in field or lab use.

4. Test Pumps

• Must include both pneumatic and high-pressure hydraulic test generators capable of producing pressures up to 15,000 psi.

• Pumps shall be portable, provided with carrying cases, and interface with quick-connect hose kits rated for 8,000–15,000 psi.

5. Temperature Calibration

• System must include dry well calibrators and thermocouple furnaces covering at least -40°C through 1210°C.

• Inserts must be interchangeable and capable of accommodating multiple probe diameters.

6. Process Calibrators

• Multifunction process calibrators are required with HART communication capability for instrumentation verification.

7. Probes and Sensors

• Secondary standard RTDs and Type S thermocouples must be provided.

• Devices must support validation from -40°C through 1300°C with ISO

17025 certification.

8. Software

• Calibration and asset management software shall be included.

• Software must automate calibration tasks and maintain compliance with

ISO 17025 traceability requirements.

9. Interoperability

• All components must be modular and designed for integration.

• System must enable operational checks, sensor characterization, and validation of engineering unit conversions within Data Acquisition Units (DAUs).

Purpose:

These characteristics ensure the Government obtains a modular, standardized calibration solution capable of supporting both laboratory and field verification. This system will reduce reliance on outsourced calibration services, increase mission assurance, and ensure compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
