1. GENERAL

1.1. This specification covers precast concrete manhole construction of switchgear manholes. There are several options for selecting the proper switchgear manhole to order. They are based on the application of the installation.

2. COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS AND CODES

2.1. Roof shall be designed for AASHO-HS20-44 direct wheel loading

2.2. Manholes to be in accordance with ASTM publication C-857, C-858, ACI 318 and

AASHTO load factor design methods.

2.3. Steel reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM-A-615 (latest revision). Grade 60 min.

Cover - 1".

3. MATERIAL

3.1. Material shall be precast concrete with a minimum strength of 5,000 psi, 28 days.

3.2. Drawing shall be approved by National Grid Standards

3.3. Steel reinforcing bars shall conform to ASTM-A-615 (latest revision). Grade 60 min.

Cover - 1".

3.4. Design loading - the roof shall be designed for AASHO-HS20-44 direct wheel loading.

3.5. Do not extend horizontal rods into duct openings. Vertical reinforcing rods in top and bottom sections of the duct openings will be bent out in the field for support of incoming duct bank.

3.6. Pull eyes, furnished by manufacturer, to be 1" round galvanized eye bolt. Pull test

25,000 lbs. As per detail “Z”.

3.7. Bare 4/0 copper ground stub conductor and U-bolt clamps as shown in detail “Y” to be furnished by manufacturer.

3.8. Construction joint shall be sealed with asphalt or equivalent.

3.9. Purchaser will provide manhole frame, cover, end bells and brick.

3.10. Manholes to be in accordance with ASTM publication C-857 and C-858.

3.11. Manhole to be delivered to the job site by the manufacturer. Delivery to be coordinated with purchaser on a 48-hou notice.

3.12. Unistrut to be 1 5/8” x 1 5/8” galvanized steel embedded in wall and tied to reinforcing.

3.13. Manhole to be delivered in three pieces: top, bottom and collar.

3.14. No changes to be made to this plan without purchaser’s approval

3.15. Hatchway to be H20 rated made of galvanized steel. Hatchway to meet minimum requirements detailed in MS3482.

3.16. Collars with openings to have a 2-inch-thick closed cell styra foam extruded polystyrene (XPS). The styra foam shall meet ASTM E 119 Fire Resistance rating.
