About this file
This is Addendum One to the contract documents for the Rex Putnam High School Softball Field Netting Project (ITB-2627-124) issued by the North Clackamas School District in Oregon on August 28, 2026. The addendum addresses clarifications and modifications to the original contract documents posted on August 25, 2026, and becomes binding on all bidders and subcontractors. The project involves installing protective netting above the backstop and along the third base line at Rex Putnam High School's softball field to prevent foul balls from reaching neighboring properties. Key technical specifications clarified in this addendum include requirements for direct embedment of posts rather than ground sleeves, maintenance of existing 20-foot backstop pole heights, utilization of existing poles if structurally adequate and approved by district representatives, and installation of netting 15 feet above the existing fence line along the third base line with a minimum six-inch clearance around any PGE-owned light poles. The district will conduct utility locates prior to the site walk to identify underground routing for power to left-field lights.
The addendum specifies that engineering for new poles, if required, must be included as a separate line item in bids. Additional requirements include a uniform elevation roofline for vertical netting on the third baseline, netting attachment to dugout structures where preferred, and a peak netting height of 11 feet above the approximately 10-foot-4-inch tall dugout roof. The chain link height above home plate is to be determined during the job walk with potential modifications. The addendum clarifies that if existing backstop poles are used, embedment depth must be no less than the total pole length with potential for deeper penetration based on projected maximum loads and weather considerations. All questions and answers contained in this addendum supersede or supplement the original contract documents and must be incorporated by all bidders submitting proposals.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
General Scope Questions:
1. Does your plan require ground sleeves or can these be direct embedded?
A. Direct embedment is required due to the post length and potential for heavy loads.
2. Can you confirm the routing of power to the lights on the left side of the field, or will it be staked prior to the walk?
A. The district will have locates done prior to the walk to identify underground utility routing within the scope area.
For the netting over the backstop:
1. Is the preferred approach to attach to the existing poles or provide new?
A. If existing poles are in good condition and can withstand the additional weight, then existing poles are acceptable to use based on approval from a district representative.
2. If it is to attach to existing, can you confirm pole diameter, wall thickness, spacing, and depth of embedment?
A. Depth of embedment is to be no less than ⅓ the total length of the pole, with potential for deeper penetration depending on projected maximum load of net and inclement weather.
3. If it is new poles, do you want the engineering priced as a line item within the bid or will either engineering or pole spec be provided?
A. Add engineering as a line item price.
4. How tall are the existing backstop poles, and is that the height that is to be maintained?
A. Yes, maintain height. Existing backstop poles are 20’.
5. I've had several recent conversations on backstop canopy height - one is for containment, the other is to ensure adequate height for foul ball play at home plate.

ADDENDUM ONE (1) 28 August 2026
Is there a height objective or limitation?
A. It’s for foul ball play.
For the netting along third base line:
1. Can the existing light pole be utilized in the netting barrier or is it to be worked around?
A. If PGE owns this pole, it will need to be worked around, with proper clearances approved by PGE. The netting will need to be installed around the light pole with a minimum clearance of 6” to ensure longevity of the net system.
2. Is the objective 15' above the existing fenceline, or is the top of the netting to be 15' above ground level?
A. Above the fence line.
For the dugout netting:
1. What is the structure made of and can the bottom cable of the netting be attached to it, or would you prefer it be just above the roof structure?
A. The district will follow up on the structure material. Attached to the structure is preferred.
2. Will the top of the new, vertical netting on the third baseline have a uniform elevation/flat top (i.e. no steps or angled portions)?
A. Yes, uniform elevation is a requirement.
3. Can you confirm the intended height above ground level for the top of the netting as well as:
a. Peak height of the dugout:
The top of the netting must reach a peak height of 11' above the dugout roof (dugout height is approximately 10'4")
b. Height above ground level for the chain link: TBD during jobwalk, with potential change to chainlink above the homeplate.
