About this file
This is a Brand Name Justification document for a federal contract procurement. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Center for Information Technology (CIT), and High Performance Computing (HPC) facility is seeking to renew existing licenses and maintenance services for BITPLANE Imaris software. The software is essential for visualizing, segmenting, and analyzing complex three-dimensional and four-dimensional microscopy datasets that directly support NIH research activities. The justification cites operational continuity, compatibility with the current computing environment, and uninterrupted access to vendor technical support, software updates, and security patches as critical reasons for the brand-specific requirement. The document establishes that procuring an alternative software product would disrupt established research workflows, necessitate costly migration and retraining efforts, and potentially harm ongoing scientific projects, making renewal of the existing Imaris licenses and associated maintenance necessary to preserve continuity of operations and research support.

BRAND NAME JUSTIFICATION
Imaris is the brand name for this requirement. Imaris is required because NIH/CIT/HPC currently relies on BITPLANE Imaris software to visualize, segment, and analyze complex 3D and 4D microscopy datasets that support NIH research activities. This acquisition is a renewal of existing licenses and maintenance services, ensuring continued compatibility with the current computing environment, uninterrupted access to vendor technical support, software updates, security patches, and maintenance. Procuring a di erent software product would disrupt established research workflows, require migration and retraining e orts, and could negatively impact ongoing scientific projects. Therefore, renewal of the existing Imaris licenses and associated maintenance is necessary to maintain continuity of operations and research support.
