About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFQ #5PA4K00051 issued by CAL FIRE for HVAC equipment at their Training Center Unit in Ione, Amador County. The RFQ seeks bids for multiple HVAC units, including seven replacement units and four horizontal economizers specifically for two 10-ton and two 12.5-ton units. The existing units are Carrier models from 1997 with various tonnage capacities. Written questions were due by 2PM PST on December 27, 2024, and responses were provided by 4PM PST on January 2, 2025. Bid submissions must be sent electronically to Andrew.Perez@fire.ca.gov by 5:00pm PST on January 08, 2025.
The specifications indicate that any brand meeting the requirements is acceptable, with no specific brand preference though Bryant products are currently installed. The units will replace existing systems, with the 3-ton units being the only downdraft configuration while all others are side draft. No curb adaptors or disconnect boxes are required. Each unit will operate on individual thermostats with no integrated control system. A valid Seller's Permit must be submitted with the bid response along with other required documentation.

Questions and Answers
QUESTION
Is there a specific brand name unit CAL FIRE would like on this? Or are any brands acceptable?
Also, what is the address to submit the bid? There is not one listed.
I would like to confirm if CAL FIRE has any specific brand preference for the items?
Is this project for new construction, or are the new units replacing existing HVAC systems? If we’re replacing existing units, could you please provide the model numbers of the current systems? This will help me determine if curb adapters or new roof curbs are needed.
RESPONSE
Any brand that meets specifications is acceptable.
Submittal of the bid is to be electric and sent to Andrew.Perez@fire.ca.gov
There is no specific brand preference, we just need HVAC Units that meet specifications.

Request for Quote # 5PA4K00051
CAL FIRE
January 2, 2025
As per Title 24/code, all units 3 tons and above now require an economizer.
However, the RFQ only requests 4 economizers. Would you like us to bid on 7 economizers for all 7 units?
In addition to question 2, the RFQ specifies 4 horizontal economizers. Are all the units in a horizontal configuration?
Please confirm, as I’ll proceed with bidding 7 horizontal economizers if all units have horizontal ductwork.
What type of control system will the building be using? Would you like us to include controls in our bid as well?
Can you please confirm which 4 units (existing model #s that will be replaced) will need economizers.
Are all these units all down discharge?
Any matching factory Roof curbs?
Are these Economizers all down discharge?
Any special thermostats or Controls?
It is noted in the bid documents to send a copy of the seller's permit with the bid. However, if awarded, I would be getting a temporary seller's permit from the CDTFA. Can I just give you my sellers permit within a few days of award or do I have to send one in with the bid?
Please only submit for the 4 economizers requested.
All units are in a horizontal position.
There is no control system. Each unit runs on an individual thermostat.
The economizers are for the (2) 10t units and
(2) 12.5t units.

No
Per the requirements, the Seller’s Permit will need to be submitted along with your bid response as well the other required documentation the RFQ calls out for.
I notice a total of 7 HVAC Package units but only 4 economizers. Is this correct? If so, which units are the economizers for?
Are we receiving any addenda for this project before the close of business 2024? Please update & advise intent and or when addenda will be issued with questions asked answered?
Should the units be Downflow or Side Shot?
Since the economizer model varies with each unit's model and tonnage, could you please clarify the required economizer model?
As the new units differ from the old units, will a curb adaptor be necessary for each unit?
Are disconnect boxes required for the new units?
Only 4 economizers are being requested.
They are for (2) 10t units and (2) 12.5t units.
The makes are RTU Unit Rooftop Carrier.
