About this file

This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document for federal contract opportunity A26-1148 regarding a glovebox system procurement.

The solicitation addresses a glovebox with specific technical requirements. Key clarifications include: the 110/220 VAC switchable power supply is optional (110 VAC only is acceptable); a hinged front window is optional and only needed a few times annually, with the cost included in the total bid price; the small antechamber can be 14.5 inches in length (the vendor's standard); and the glovebox height of 35 inches is acceptable despite being slightly below the requested 35.43 inches. Regarding materials and components, purification materials including BASF R3-11 copper catalyst and Honeywell UOP molecular sieve are acceptable; Lexan polycarbonate with MR10 scratch and solvent-resistant coating is acceptable as an alternative to tempered glass if it offers equal or better scratch and chemical resistance; and the vendor's standard quick-change hinged-up window design is approved. The vacuum pump specification of 8.4 CFM (Edwards RV12) meets requirements despite being slightly below the original >8.5 CFM specification. The antechambers must be positioned on the right side. The working gas shall be argon as the primary option with nitrogen as an acceptable alternative. A solvent trap add-on must be quoted with specified parameters and trap capability listed, as solvents may be used in the future. The system must obtain NRTL certification before delivery from the vendor's facility.

Questions for A26-1148

1. Q: Our equipment is designed for the standard U.S. power supply of 110 VAC. The specification states “switchable 110/220 VAC.” Could you please clarify whether the equipment must include a switch allowing operation at either voltage, or whether standard 110 VAC only would be acceptable?

A:

2. Q: Is the hinged front window required for transferring large items? If so, how frequently do you expect to open it? If it will only be opened about a few times a year, our company’s unique removable flange-mounted window design should be sufficient, as it allows the window to be easily removed and reinstalled for convenient transfer of large items.

A:

3. Q: We can also configure the glovebox with a hinged front window. Please clarify whether the cost of the hinged window should be included in the total bid price or listed separately as an optional item.

A:

4. Q: Our standard small antechamber has an overall length of 300 mm, extending 100 mm inside the glovebox and 200 mm outside. Would this configuration meet your requirements?

A:

5. Q: Our purification materials are BASF R3-11 copper catalyst and Honeywell UOP molecular sieve. The Honeywell UOP molecular sieve offers better brand recognition and performance than the specified product. Would this material be acceptable?

A:

6. Q: The insurance requirements list a Medical Expense limit of $50,000. Our insurance agent reviewed this requirement and asked whether it might be a typographical error, as Medical Expense limits are typically $5,000 or $10,000 maximum. Could you please verify and confirm the required Medical Expense limit?

A: The required medical expense limit is correct.

7. Q: Our standard glovebox height is a few mm shy of the requested height. Is this OK or does it have to be >/= to 900mm? The requested is 35.43”, our standard height is 35”.

Optional

Only a few times a year if needed

Include in the total bid price

Yes

Acceptable

A:

8. Q: The large antechamber dimensions are normal. The small antechamber length is quote short (220mm, or roughly 8.67”. Is this intentional? Our standard small antechamber length is 14.5”L. We can shorten it if needed, but I wanted to make sure if this is needed first.

A:

9. Q: Does the window need to be tempered glass? We highly recommend Lexan if possible as it is much more resilient. Our standard offering is a Lexan window with an MR10 scratch and solvent resistant coating. We supply it on 99% of our systems. If safety glass is needed, we can supply it though. May I ask why it is being requested?

A:

10. Q: Our standard design includes a quick-change window with star knobs – you can take the window off and on in just a few minutes (but please be extra careful if you truly need safety glass). We can supply it with either a hinged up or swinging window, but I wouldn’t recommend this with safety glass. This would be quoted as an add-on. How would you like this quoted?

A:

11. Q: The vacuum rate you mentioned is >8.5CFM. The industry standard pump is the Edwards RV12 with a rate of 8.4CFM. Is this sufficient? I could quote another pump, but it would be surprising if it would be necessary.

A:

12. Q: Do you want the antechambers on the right or left side?

A:

13. Q: Will the working gas be primality nitrogen or argon?

A:

14. Q: A solvent trap was not mentioned in the specs – will solvents be used in the box?

A:

15. Q: To clarify, the system needs to be NRTL certified before leaving our facility, correct?

A:

It is Okey

14.5" length is acceptable

Tempered glass has higher scratch and chemical resistance. If the selected polycarbonate has better scratch and chemical resistance, it is acceptable.

Your standard design with a hinged up window is okey

8.4 CFM is acceptable

The right side

Argon is primality but nitrogen can work as well

Correct. Need NRTL certified.

Solvents will not be currently used. In the future, the solvents might be used.

Please quote the trap add-on and list its parameters, speciaally trap capability.
