RFP A22-1089 Specifications for Pulsed Magnetizer

Ames Laboratory is requesting quotes on a pulsed magnetizing system that can be operated in a glove box supplied by customer. The system should be compatible with commercially available with appropriate feedthrough. The capacitor band and other electronics, with the exception of magnetizing fixture, should be housed outside of glove box.

• Required to magnetize materials in inert chambers, e.g. glovebox.

i. Describe approach for integrating into an inert atmosphere.

ii. Describe feedthrough requirement for the inert chamber. Preferred that feedthroughs are compatible with standard Roxtec or similar transit.

• Minimum magnetizing fixture active volume of 4 inches diameter and 6 inches length.

• System with two readily interchangeable coils: (1) 4” ID, 10” length, >6 T field and (2) 6” ID, 12” length, >4 T field. Please specify if lengths are different than noted.

• With the magnetizing fixture in an inert chamber, describe if the unit can be operated outside of the inert chamber.

• Minimum magnetic field in the active volume of 6 T. Higher field strengths are preferred. Please specify the uniformity of the field over the active volume.

• Specify the following for the system

i. Input power requirement: voltage, # of phases, current, etc.

ii. Number of capacitors and total capacitance.

iii. Maximum energy

iv. Pulse rate with and without water cooling.

v. Cooling requirement in flow rate and necessary temperature of coolant.

vi. Magnetizing part holder dimensions

• Describe the magnetizing part holder.

• Data acquisition, storage and transfer.

• Describe power drain capability.

• Describe interlocks and other safety mechanisms.

• Explain temperature monitoring mechanism and shut-off controls.

• Warranties

• Quote the following as a separate line item

i. On-site (Ames Laboratory) installation and training as a separate.
