About this file

This is a Laboratory Report for Bulk Sample Asbestos Evaluation using Polarized Light Microscopy Method, conducted by TEM Environmental, Inc. for Fermi Lab at the Kirk & Wilson Roads location in Batavia, IL. The report details asbestos testing results for six samples collected from Ramsey Door 10&11 and Paint 22 Sauk, analyzed on 4/12/2025 by Lori Boersma. Of the six samples examined (including black textured door paint, wood pattern VFT, and associated mastic), one sample (Lab ID 567497, a black associated mastic) tested positive for asbestos, specifically containing 2-3% Chrysotile asbestos fibers and 5-7% Cellulose non-asbestos fibers. The other samples were reported as "None Detected" for asbestos. The report includes a Chain of Custody form and notes that additional testing using transmission electron microscopy is recommended for conclusive results, particularly for samples with potentially small, undetectable fibers.

LABORATORY REPORT

Asbestos Present

Report Approved by:

Samples are analyzed following the procedures contained in the USEPA Method 600/R-93/116 July 1993. This report applies only to samples analyzed. This report may not be reproduced except in full and with the approval of TEM Environmental, Inc. This report may not be used by the client to claim product endorsement by NVLAP or any agency of the US government. An estimate of the laboratory uncertainty is available upon request.

SLM: Certain samples may warrant additional analysis beyond the standard USEPA Polarized Light Microscopy method. 1) Further testing using the point count method is recommend for friable samples found to contain less than 10% asbestos by PLM to confirm that the samples are in fact regulated asbestos containing materials (RACM) as defined by the USEPA NESHAP Regulation.

2) The optical resolution of a polarized light microscope limits the size of fibers that are visible. In cases where very small fibers may be present, such as in samples of floor tiles, vermiculite or certain construction adhesives, the result of the PLM analysis is not conclusive when the sample is reported as "None Detected" or “Trace”. Further testing using transmission electron microscopy is recommended in those cases where samples may contain very small fibers which may be smaller than the resolution limit of a polarized light microscope. All such services are available for an additional fee.
