OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
Agency Overview and Background The Oregon Department of Revenue (Agency) administers Oregon tax laws, supports partners’ programs, and acts as a central debt collection agency for other state agencies, boards, commissions, and local governments. We provide services for the general public, tax professionals, cities, counties, local taxing districts, tribal governments, and other state agencies. As per our mission statement, Agency is committed to bringing in the revenue that Oregon counts on, whether it’s through tax programs we administer, supporting our partners’ revenue collection efforts, or collecting on debts owed the state of Oregon.
The Senior and Disabled Citizen’s Property Tax Deferral Program helps senior and disabled citizens stay in their homes by paying the county their annual property taxes on their behalf. Repayment of the balance and the 6% simple interest accrued is secured by a lien on the property and is due when the deferral ends. Participants may also apply to the county to have past delinquent taxes held off from county tax foreclosure if approved to the deferral program.
