About this file
This document is a Report of Pavement Evaluation for the Huntington Middle School Track in Warner Robins, Georgia, prepared by Terracon Consultants, Inc. for the Houston County Board of Education. The report details the findings from core sampling and dynamic cone penetrometer (DCP) testing conducted at four locations around the track to evaluate the existing pavement, subbase, and subgrade conditions. The core samples indicate the track has an asphalt concrete surface layer ranging from 1.75 to 2 inches thick, with an aggregate base course of 3.25 to 5 inches. The DCP testing provided an assessment of the strength and load-carrying capacity of the subgrade soils, which were characterized as tan/brown, red/tan, and gray silty/clayey sands.
The related state and local contract opportunity is for the repaving of the Huntington Middle School athletic track, issued by the Houston County School District located in the state of Georgia. The contract solicitation details are not provided in this document, but it can be inferred that the findings from the pavement evaluation report will inform the technical requirements and scope of work for the repaving project.

Hunting Middle School Core Sampling (CMT)
Warner Robins, Georgia
Terracon Project No. HN241159
Dear Mr. Aeschliman:
Terracon Consultants, Inc. is pleased to present this report on Huntington Middle School Track pavement testing. This report is prepared in accordance with proposal PHN241159 dated Jun 26, 2024.
Pavement Evaluation
Terracon representatives were on site to perform pavement testing at four locations around the track. Core locations C-1 through C-4 were determined based on discussion with HCOB personnel.
Terracon measured the thickness of the existing pavement and subbase and determined the type of subgrade at each location. A Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) was used at selected intervals and core locations to evaluate the subgrade materials. The DCP utilizes a 15-lb steel plate falling
20 inches along a steel rod to drive a conical point into the undisturbed soil in the bottom of the borehole. The conical point is first seated two inches into the undisturbed bottom of the auger hole in order to embed the cone. The cone point is then driven an additional 1.75-inch increment using the 15-lb drop weight falling 20 inches, and the number of blows required to advance the point is recorded. The blow count for the 1.75-inch increment provides a relative index to the strength, density, and load carrying capacity of the soil. For this site, DCP tests were conducted at the surface of the soil subgrade below the pavement and subbase and then at one-two (1-2) foot increments below subbase. A summary of the findings can be found in the table below.
