About this file

This Request for Information (RFI) from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) seeks details for replacing two existing tube-based Sub-Harmonic Buncher (SHB) pulsed RF High Power Amplifiers (HPAs) with new solid-state based units. Specifically, LBNL is looking for two 25 kW (peak) HPAs: one operating at approximately 125 MHz and another at 500 MHz, to be used in the ALS AIP project. Interested bidders are requested to complete an attached specification requirements Excel sheet, provide technical documentation, share examples of similar HPAs in operation, submit a budgetary quotation for two HPA units, and outline an estimated delivery schedule.

The RFI is strictly for information gathering purposes, with a response deadline of 11/5/2025. No proposals will be solicited, no subcontract will be awarded, and no reimbursement will be provided for response costs. Respondents must not include proprietary or confidential information, as responses may be publicly disclosed. The document includes a company information form requesting details about the bidder's business, including small business status, core competencies, management capabilities, and technical abilities. OVERVIEW & BACKGROUND

ALS AIP project of replacing the two existing old tube based SHB's (at 125 MHz and 500 MHz) pulsed RF High Power Amplifiers's (HPA's) to new solid state based pulsed RF HPA's of 25 kW peak at 125 MHz and 500 MHz.

SCOPE OF WORK

LBNL plans to procure two (2) units of 25 kW (peak) pulsed RF solid-state (LDMOS/GaN-based) High Power Amplifiers (HPAs):

• One (1) unit operating at approximately 125 MHz

• One (1) unit operating at approximately 500 MHz

These new HPAs will replace the existing tube-based ALS Sub-Harmonic Buncher (SHB) pulsed RF amplifier systems. LBNL believes this opportunity may be of interest to bidders with relevant experience in this field.

Bidders are kindly requested to complete the attached SHB Pulsed RF HPA High-Level Specification Requirements (dated 12 Oct 2025) Excel sheet by filling in Columns D and E with their responses. In addition, please provide:

• Relevant technical documentation and drawings (if available)

• Examples of similar HPAs currently in operation (particularly in accelerator laboratories or comparable environments)

• An estimated budgetary quotation for two (2) HPA units

• An estimated delivery schedule

Bidders are also encouraged to include any additional technical insights, design features, or value engineering considerations that highlight the strengths and uniqueness of their pulsed RF HPA solutions.
