About this file

This is a Request for Bidding Interpretation (RFBI) document for the California Department of General Services (DGS) regarding Project Number 000000000013151 for DOT D6 Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment installation in Madera and Fresno counties. The project involves installing electrical conduits and equipment at two Department of Transportation facilities: 1635 W Pine Ave in Fresno and 125 W Almond Ave in Madera. The RFBI response deadline was December 11, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., with responses to be published on caleprocure.ca.gov.

The RFBI addresses two specific questions from MM Energy and Lighting regarding bush removal permissions and conduit installation routing at the Fresno location. The project lead designer responded that bushes/shrubs may be removed as needed for electrical conduit and equipment installation, though trees must be protected. For the conduit routing issue, contractors are instructed to preferably run conduit along the wall using junction boxes and conduit bodies for bends, or alternatively use underground PVC trenching to reach the new distribution panel. The contractor is responsible for repairing any damage to existing infrastructure at their own expense. The attached site plan and photograph show the building corner in question where the conduit routing needs to be addressed.

Are bushes allowed to be removed for both Fresno and Madera locations?

In Fresno location, during virtual bid walk we noticed the corner of the building has no room for the conduit to be ran on the wall please see image.

Please clarify how the facility would like this to be ran?

Subject / Title of RFBI: Shrubs and Conduit Run

RFBI Question:

1. Are bushes allowed to be removed for both Fresno and Madera locations?

Please clarify how the facility would like this to be ran? (Drawing Reference C2.1)

RFBI Received From: Manuel Martinez Rodriguez

Responsible Contractor: MM Energy and Lighting Due Date: 12/10/2024

DGS Project Director/Manager: Sina Roudbari

RFI Response:

1. Bushes/shrubs are allowed to be removed as needed to install the electrical conduits and equipment, but trees are to be protected and not be damaged during construction.

2. It would be preferred to run the conduit along the wall, if needed junction boxes and conduit bodies may be used to make the bends. If this is not viable then going underground with PVC and trenching to the new distribution panel is acceptable. The reasoning for running the conduit along the wall was to avoid what seems to be a large amount of existing underground utilities and tree/roots. It will be the Contractors responsibility to repair and/or replace any damages to the existing infrastructure at the expense of the Contractor.
