About this file
This is a Project Manual for RFB951900-01, issued by the State of Iowa for the Infirmary Building Roof Replacement project (IHMI 9519). The project encompasses comprehensive roof replacement work including demolition of existing roofing systems, rough carpentry for damaged sheathing replacement, installation of new underlayment, asphalt shingles on steep slope areas, and EPDM roofing on flat roof sections. The specification document details work across multiple sections including Section 02 41 00 (Demolition), Section 06 10 00 (Rough Carpentry), Section 07 01 50 (Preparation for Re-Roofing), Section 07 30 70 (Steep Slope Roofing Underlayment), Section 07 31 13 (Asphalt Shingles), and Section 07 53 23 (EPDM Roofing). The project requires removal of existing roofing materials, repair or replacement of damaged substrate and sheathing, installation of new roofing underlayment and membranes, and related flashing and trim work. The specification indicates the building will remain occupied during the construction period, requiring coordinated work to minimize interference with occupants.
The Project Manual establishes detailed technical and performance requirements for all roofing materials, including references to ASTM standards, UL certifications, and manufacturer specifications. Asphalt shingles must meet ASTM D3018 requirements with Class A fire resistance and 130-mph wind resistance ratings, with a 40-year limited warranty provided by manufacturers such as CertainTeed Northgate AR. EPDM roofing systems must comply with ASTM D4637 specifications and include a 25-year non-prorated warranty covering material and labor. The specification requires a pre-installation meeting one week before work commences, manufacturer approval of all installation procedures, and a final technical inspection by a non-sales representative of the system manufacturer. Contractors must submit comprehensive shop drawings, product data, warranties, and pre-installation notices for approval prior to beginning work. The document establishes stringent quality assurance requirements, delivery and storage procedures, environmental conditions for installation, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, with all work to be performed according to NRCA, SMACNA, and SPRI industry standards.
