COMMON WORK RESULTS FOR FIRE SUPPRESSION
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 PAYMENT
A. Include in lump sum price offered for the Grand Coulee Power Office Fire Station.
1.02 SUMMARY
A. Related Requirements: Section 01 81 13, Sustainable Design Requirements, for applicable Guiding Principle Compliance Requirements as assessed through GBCI-NC 2009 Compliance Path.
1.03 GUIDING PRINCIPLE COMPLIANCE THROUGH GBCI-NC 2009
COMPLIANCE PATH
A. This Project is targeting Guiding Principle Compliance through GBCI-NC 2009 Compliance Path. It is the Contractor’s responsibility to familiarize themselves with this program, to determine which points in the system that are relevant for this Project are influenced by their work, and to meet the requirements of those sections for this Project. Review Section 01 81 13, Sustainable Design Requirements, for Low-Emitting Materials, and Recycled Content submittal requirements.
1.04 DESCRIPTION

1.06 SUBMITTALS

B. RSN 21 05 00-1, Shop Drawings: Indicate pipe materials used, jointing methods, supports, floor, and wall penetration seals. Indicate installation, layout, weights, mounting and support details, and piping connections.
C. RSN 21 05 00-2, Product Data: Submit manufacturer’s catalog information.
Indicate valve data and ratings.
D. RSN 21 05 00-3, Manufacturer’s Certificate: Certify products meet or exceed specified requirements.

1.07 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Perform Work in accordance with NFPA 13 and State of Washington standards.
B. Provide certificates for all welds.
C. Electrical Components, Devices and Accessories: Listed and labeled according to NFPA 70 and in strict accordance with listed location and application.
D. Comply with all necessary federal, state, and local AHJ requirements.
E. Plans, specifications, codes, and standards are minimum requirements. Where project requirements are different, apply the more stringent.
1.08 QUALIFICATIONS
A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in manufacturing products specified in this section with minimum 3 years’ documented experience, and with service facilities within 100 miles of Project.
B. Installer: Company specializing in performing Work of this section with minimum 3 years’ documented experience approved by manufacturer.
C. Fire protection contractor shall hold a valid Fire Sprinkler License in the State of Washington.

1.09 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS
A. Refer to Section 01 31 19, Project Meetings.
B. Convene minimum 1 week prior to commencing work of this section.
1.10 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Section 01 60 00, Product Requirements: Product storage and handling requirements.
B. Deliver and store valves in shipping containers, with labeling in place.
C. Furnish cast iron and steel valves with temporary protective coating.
D. Furnish temporary end caps and closures on piping and fittings. Maintain in place until installation.
1.11 WARRANTY
A. Product warranties and product bonds.
1.12 EXTRA MATERIALS
A. Spare parts and maintenance products.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A. Or equal products shall meet the salient characteristics identified herein for that product.
2.02 VALVES

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. Ream pipe and tube ends. Remove burrs.
B. Remove scale and foreign material, from inside and outside, before assembly.
C. Prepare piping connections to equipment with flanges or unions.

3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Install piping in accordance with NFPA 13 for sprinkler systems, NFPA 14 for standpipe and hose systems, and NFPA 24 for service mains.
B. Route piping in orderly manner, plumb and parallel to building structure.
Maintain gradient.
C. Install piping to conserve building space, to not interfere with use of space and other work.
D. Group piping whenever practical at common elevations.
E. Install pipe sleeve at piping penetrations through partitions, walls, and floors.
Seal pipe and sleeve penetrations to maintain fire resistance equivalent to fire separation.
F. Install piping to allow for expansion and contraction without stressing pipe, joints, or connected equipment.
G. Pipe Hangers and Supports:
1. Install in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 14.
2. Install hangers with minimum 1/2-inch (15-mm) space between finished covering and adjacent work.
3. Place hangers within 12 inches (300 mm) of each horizontal elbow.
4. Use hangers with 1-1/2-inch (40-mm) minimum vertical adjustment.
Design hangers for pipe movement without disengagement of supported pipe.
5. Support vertical piping at every floor. Support riser piping independently of connected horizontal piping.
6. Where installing several pipes in parallel and at same elevation, provide multiple or trapeze hangers.
7. Coat exposed steel hangers and supports per Section 09 91 00, Exterior and Interior Painting. Hangers and supports located in crawl spaces, pipe shafts, and suspended ceiling spaces are not considered exposed.
8. Design and install seismic supports per Section 01 88 15, Anchorage and Bracing, as required by NFPA 13.
H. Slope piping and arrange systems to drain at low points. Install eccentric reducers to maintain top of pipe level.
I. Prepare pipe, fittings, supports, and accessories for finish painting. Where pipe support members are welded to structural building framing, scrape, brush clean, and apply one coat of zinc rich primer to welding. Refer to Section 09 91 00, Exterior and Interior Painting.
J. Do not penetrate building structural members unless indicated.

K. Where more than one piping system material is specified, install compatible system components and joints. Install flanges, union, and couplings at locations requiring servicing.
L. Die cut threaded joints with full cut standard taper pipe threads with red lead and linseed oil or other nontoxic joint compound applied to male threads only.
M. Install valves with stems upright or horizontal, not inverted. Remove protective coatings after installation.
N. Install gate or butterfly valves for shutoff or isolating service.
O. Install drain valves at main shutoff valves, low points of piping and apparatus.
3.03 INTERFACE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS
A. Inserts:
1. Install inserts for placement in concrete forms.
2. Install inserts for suspending hangers from reinforced concrete slabs and sides of reinforced concrete beams.
3. Install hooked rod to concrete reinforcement section for inserts carrying pipe over 4 inches (100 mm).
4. Where concrete slabs form finished ceiling, locate inserts flush with slab surface.
3.04 CLEANING
A. Final cleaning.
B. Clean entire system after other construction is complete.
