Windows Building 52, FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS
Questions & Answers 29 August 2024
Q1. Question: Can you clarify the makeup of the insulated glass unit. Do you want both the interior and exterior light to be laminated glass or is one laminated and one tempered? Which one gets the grey tint?
A1. Answer: The laminated glass must be on the interior. The exterior can be tempered. We no longer want tint on the windows. We have taken the grey tint out of the contract documents.
Q2. Question: It looks like 6 Phase 3 windows in the Sheridan Annex North Elevation (SDAN201, SDAN202, SDAN301, SDAN302, SDN401, SDAN402) were left off the window schedule. Could they be added so we know what is required at those openings?
A2. Answer: These windows were added to the schedule on the updated drawing set.
Q3. Question: Per note 6 on Drawing A100 “some existing backer rod around windows may contain asbestos.” Please confirm this statement indicates that all windows are to be treated/removed by an abatement contractor since windows with ACM containing backer rods are not specifically called out.
A3. Answer: Contractor will be responsible for testing all the windows for asbestos. Assume there are 20 windows that are positive for asbestos. Provide a unit price for every window that tests positive over the assumed 20 windows. The attached hazardous material report only found asbestos in a few of the randomly sampled windows. The asbestos is located in some of the window caulk per the report.
Q4. Question: Can you confirm that the exterior color of all windows on the above captioned project are to be WHITE?
A4. Answer: The exterior color of all windows is to be colonial red. Refer to drawing sheet A-117, spec section 2.8. Was it stated that exterior windows are to be white somewhere else in the specs?
Q5. Question: The bid form does not provide an area for the per phase pricing. How do you wish for us to provide the per phase pricing?
A5. Answer: There will be no phases for this requirement. Price all windows listed on Window Schedule. Drawings and SOW has been updated to reflect that information.
Q6. Question: For bidding purposes, how do we quantify the amount of asbestos that may be encountered?
A6. Answer: The contractor will be responsible for testing all the windows for asbestos. Assume there are 20 windows that are positive for asbestos IAW the report. Provide a unit price for every window that tests positive over the assumed 20 windows. The attached hazardous material report only found asbestos in a few of the randomly sampled windows. The asbestos is located in some of the window caulk per the report.
Q7. Question: Who will be responsible to disconnect / reconnect the utilities, such as freon lines, electrical lines, plumbing, etc., during the installation of the Mapes panels in the new windows?
A7. Answer: The contractor will be responsible for disconnecting/reconnecting all utilities. In addition to making sure the equipment is operating correctly. (Ex.
HVAC unit at Sherman Annex).
