Building 1169 Room 120 New Q&A - RFQ FA462126Q0032 - LRS Heritage Room A/V Upgrade

Q- What is the maximum allowable load (static and/or dynamic) for ceiling-mounted equipment in the Heritage Room?

A- Because the exact wall thickness and manufacturer specifications of the legacy tubular trusses are unverified, a conservative, protective load threshold based on the building's historical design parameters:

· Maximum Static Point Load: The maximum allowable static load at any single mid-span slot attachment point is 75 lbs, provided the load is bridged evenly across both bottom chord tubes using a threaded rod and top-plate assembly.

· Dynamic/Motorized Loads: No dynamic rigging, hoist, or winch systems are permitted. Motorized rollup screens are treated as static dead loads, but mounting brackets must be engineered to fully absorb start/stop motor torque.

· Load Bridging for Heavier Loads: If any single proposed component (e.g., a heavy commercial projector housing or large screen assembly) exceeds 75 lbs, the contractor must bridge the load across two or more adjacent trusses using structural steel angle iron or strut channels (Unistrut) mounted perpendicular to the trusses to distribute the weight.

Q- What engineering criteria, calculations, or structural analysis are being used to establish the stated weight limitations?

A- The weight limitations are established using the official structural design criteria for Building 1169, as documented in Sheet S-100 (General Notes) of the facility records:

Industrial Pedigree (Room 152): Historical drawings show that Room 120 was previously designated as "Machine Shop Room 152".

Q- Do the restrictions apply only to the projector and projection screen, or do they also apply to other suspended devices such as loudspeakers, ceiling-mounted hardware, cable pathways, and associated mounting infrastructure?

A- The restrictions apply to the cumulative dead load of the entire proposed system. The contractor must submit an equipment layout plan detailing the weight and location of all suspended elements, including:

1. Projector and ceiling mount.

2. Motorized roll-up screen housing.

3. Loudspeakers and brackets.

4. All dedicated electrical conduit, J-boxes, and cables.

5. Structural backing hardware (Unistrut, threaded rods, and plates).

Note: The total cumulative load of all components suspended from a single truss span must not exceed 250 lbs.

Q- Is the weight limit based on individual attachment points, total system weight, or distributed load across the structure?

A- The installation must comply with both local and span-based limits:

· Point-Load Limit (Local): Maximum 75 lbs per individual attachment point, dropped through the bottom chord center slot and bridged across both tubes.

· Truss-Load Limit (Span): Maximum 250 lbs total cumulative load distributed across any single truss span.

· Structural Distribution: To keep individual attachment points well below the 75 lb limit, the contractor is highly encouraged to bridge loads across multiple trusses using perpendicular angle iron or Unistrut channels.

Q- Are approved mounting locations, structural drawings, or as-built ceiling details available for review?

A- Yes, with security restrictions:

Available Reference Drawings: Original structural wall/framing details for (Sheet A-7), the 1987 Composite Floor Plan drawing (Sheet A-1, noting "Machine Shop 152"), and the General Notes (Sheet S-100) to assist the contractor.

Field Verification Required: Archive drawings are for historical reference only. The contractor remains responsible for executing on-site visual verification, measuring the tubular chords, and verifying clearances prior to fabricating mounting hardware.

Q- If the proposed equipment exceeds the stated limits, will reinforced mounting methods or alternate mounting solutions be considered acceptable?

A- Yes. Alternate mounting and reinforcement designs will be considered subject to formal submittal and approval by the Government.
