About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for RFQ No. 19SP5025Q0005 regarding the installation of fireproofing insulation at the Chief of Mission Residence in Madrid, Spain. The document does not address specific pricing terms, response dates, award dates, or other transactional details, but rather clarifies technical and logistical requirements that contractors must understand when preparing their quotations.
Key technical requirements clarified include: walls marked on Drawing A1-N1 must be extended to the ceiling and fireproofed to achieve a one-hour fire rating; both walls and the floor above the false ceiling in the evacuation corridor (blue area) require fireproofing using mineral wool mortar supported by metal mesh (nervometal or similar); a structural metal catwalk must be installed above the ceiling to provide safe working access; a false fireproof ceiling is not required; and fire dampers should be included as an optional line item in quotations, with amendments to the Statement of Work and pricing schedule forthcoming. Regarding infrastructure, contractors should note that only three-phase power at 125/220 volts is available (not 220/380V), and contractors are responsible for providing their own power generator. Projection machines for mortar application are permitted if space permits. The period of performance has been extended from 15 calendar days to 40 calendar days to accommodate the scope of work. The original scope of work will not be modified to include ceiling replacement, and all work will proceed as specified in the Statement of Work.

RFQ No. 19SP5025Q0005
INSTALLATION OF FIREPROOFING INSTULATION AT THE CHIEF OF
MISSION RESIDENCE IN MADRID, SPAIN
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Question 1: Do we need to fireproof all the walls above the ceiling? The current walls are made of regular brick and they are not fireproof.
Answer 1: Yes. The wall marked with a green line on Drawing A1-N1 in the Statement of Work (SOW) must be extended up to the ceiling and fireproofed to achieve a one-hour fire rating.
Question 2: Do we need to board the floor above the ceiling?
Answer 2: Yes. The SOW will be amended to add the requirement to install a structural metal catwalk above the ceiling to provide a safe working path. Please refer to picture
A2-N3 for details.
Question 3: Do we need to fireproof only the walls, or also the floor above the false ceiling?
Answer 3: Both the walls and the floor above the false ceiling must be fireproofed. As indicated in the SOW and Drawing A1-N1, the blue area corresponding to the hall requires a one-hour fire rating.
Question 4: Do we need to install a false fireproof ceiling above the current ceiling?
Answer 4: No. According to the SOW, the requirement is to install fireproof insulation in the evacuation corridor using mineral wool mortar, supported by a metal mesh
(nervometal or similar). A false fireproof ceiling is not required.
Question 5: Do we need to install fire dampers?
Answer 5: Please include fire dampers as an optional item in your quotation. The pricing schedule and the SOW will be amended to add this requirement.
Question 6: Is there a 220/380V three-phase power outlet available?
Answer 6: No. We only have three-phase power at 125/220 volts.
Question 7: Would you provide a power generator?
Answer 7: No. Contractors are responsible for providing their own power generator.
Question 8: Can we bring a large projection machine (for mortar application)?
Answer 8: Yes, you may bring a projection machine. However, please verify its dimensions to ensure there is sufficient access space.
Question 9: Wouldn’t it be better to replace the entire ceiling and fireproof the adjoining wall, instead of fireproofing everything above the ceiling?
Answer 9: No. The ceiling will not be replaced. The project will proceed according to the original scope of work.
Question 9: Can the period of performance be extended? We would need at least 4 to 5 weeks to complete these works.
Answer 9: Yes, we have amended the solicitation to extend the period of performance from 15 calendar days to 40 calendar days.
