About this file
This document is a Question and Answer sheet related to a state and local contract opportunity for the purchase and installation of a 1000 Gallon Double Walled Above Ground Storage Tank for Gasoline in the state of Illinois. The key details are that the new tank does not need to be concrete lined, as the original tank being replaced was, as there are no regulations or standards requiring a concrete lining. A double walled, steel, above ground storage tank that meets applicable standards for leak protection, overfill protection, and fire protection is acceptable. The new tank will need to be properly anchored to the existing concrete pad to prevent it from floating or being carried away during a flood event, as the tank is located in a flood plain.
The contract opportunity is being issued by the state of Illinois and the project name is "OWR Stratton Gas Storage Tank". The contract requires the purchase and installation of the 1000 gallon tank, but does not provide any details on pricing terms, funding requirements, or other salient commercial information.

Question and Answer Document
Question:
Does the new fuel tank have to be a concrete lined like the tank we are replacing, or could it be a standard double walled, steel, above ground storage tank?
Replacing with another concrete lined tank will add significant costs and complications to the installation of the fuel tank.
Answer:
No, we are not requiring the new fuel tank to be concrete lined. We could not find any regulations or standards that required the tank to be concrete lined. A double walled, steel, above ground storage tank that meets all Office of Fire Marshall or other applicable standards for leak protection, overfill protection, and fire protection is acceptable. The tank we are replacing is currently installed in a flood plain, and the new tank will need to be properly anchored to the existing concrete pad to prevent it from floating or being carried away by high water during a flood event.
