Q&A Results:
1. The contractor is not responsible for work not stated in the PWS, including snow control.
However, it should remain an item detailed in your inspection report if necessary.
2. The contractor is responsible only to remove any additional snow needed (at their discretion) for the direct purpose of erection and tear-down of the scaffolding. This is to ensure the structure has a solid foundation and will not shift during spring break up.
3. The purpose of the scaffolding is to gain access to the flair stack allowing the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators safe access to the flair to light the flair and conduct maintenance/repairs to the piping and flair burner. This is why we are requesting to have this structure in place for 7 months to not only give us access to the flair components but to also enable us a way to execute much needed maintenance and replace components that have failed.
4. The end result is to ensure plant operators are able to access the piping so maintenance of the flair, flair piping components i.e. electrical system ignitor system pilot light system is able to be conducted in a safe and unobstructed access to the flair piping, components, and main flair enclosure (the whole piping assembly visible from the lower roof to the top flair assembly.
5. If the scaffolding structure requires tie off anchors to the facility the contractor will need to install them as needed and repair the area after the anchors are removed after the project is completed to restore the facility back to how it was prior to the tie off anchors being installed.
6. The upper penthouse room above the digestors is equipped with 110v power outlets available to be utilized by the contractor.
7. Not able to find any data on how much weight the structure can support but with us extending the foundation from the roof top to a lower area just above the upper digestor doorway this structure would be supported by concrete and not a tin roof so we think that the capacity would be quite a bit more than the scaffolding and workers’ weight. This platform should have no more than a max of 4 personal at one given time while replacing piping and inspecting the burner assembly.
8. Dimensions of the pipe:
Height from roof to top: approximately 13 feet Circumference: Main stack of piping is 2-inch pipe, The pilot light piping is approximately 2-inch pipe, Pipe, the smaller pilot light feed line is ¾ inch pipe, The top shroud that protects the flame from the wind is approximately 4-inch pipe
Distance between pipe and edge of building: 3 feet from pipe to the outside edge of upper building roof and 3.5 feet to the inside edge of the upper building
Clearance distance from pipe to nearest combustible material. (wood plank): The only combustible material in the vicinity is the methane that is being generated by the digestors going through the flair stack piping, the building has metal siding, tar paper roofing, and I believe the studs inside the walls are metal.
