About this file

This document is a questions and answers addendum related to the Marylhurst Sanitary Sewer Pump Station Rehabilitation project in Oregon. The project involves replacement of electrical components, mechanical piping, submersible pumps, and installation of a valve vault for an aging sanitary pump station, with an engineer's estimate of $410,300.00. The City does not currently have measured flow rate or volume control data for the pump station, though operational data indicates average daily pump run times of approximately 6 minutes per pump (12 minutes total), with documented run times reaching 77 minutes per pump during heavy rain events such as the December 9th, 2025 event. The City will not permit surcharge of the sanitary sewer main if there is potential for surcharge into lateral connections, though temporary structures may be established during construction for bypass pumping purposes and removed upon completion of wet well rehabilitation, with retention possible if the structure meets all City design requirements for a manhole.

The City allows material substitutions or upsizing for the 2-inch valve vault drain pipe if 2-inch ductile pipe cannot be sourced. The electrical conduit schedule on sheet E4.1 contains duplicate entries, which is correct as the original design package included two pump stations; the Marylhurst Pump Station is identified by tags beginning with "1" (G-1-0, P-1-0, P-1-1, P-1-2, etc.) as noted on Sheet E1.1. Any additional structures constructed for bypass purposes will be considered incidental to the temporary sewer bypass bid item.

Text version

Q: Does the City have a measured flow rate at this pump station?

A: City does not have volume or flow control data for this pump station at this time.

Q: Does the city have run time data for this pump station?

A: On an average day each pump runs for 6 minutes (12 minutes total). This area does experience infiltration and has been recorded with run times as much as 77 minutes per pump (154 minutes total) during heavy rain events (dates of these high recordings: December 9th, 2025).

Q: Is bypass pumping allowed to surcharge the sanitary sewer main for bypassing purpose?

A: City will not allow surcharge of the sanitary sewer main if there is any potential for surcharge into a lateral connection. Given the location of surrounding houses, surcharging the main may be difficult to achieve without surcharging laterals for this project.

Q: Would the City allow a new structure to be set for bypassing purposes?

A: City would allow a structure to be temporarily set during construction. This structure would be removed after wet well rehabilitation is complete. City may allow structure to remain in place if by the end of construction, it meets all the city design requirements for a manhole. Additional structures constructed for bypass purposes will be considered incidental to the “Temporary Sewer Bypass” bid item.

Q: Would the City allow a pipe material substitution for the 2” valve vault drain pipe if a 2” ductile pipe cannot be sourced?

A: City would allow either a pipe material substitution or upsizing for this drain pipe.

Q: The electrical conduit schedule on sheet E4.1 appears to have duplicates of every conduit. Can you please confirm if the conduit schedule is correct?

A: The electrical schedule is correct. Design package originally included two pump stations. Sheet E4.1 includes electrical schedule for both pump stations. Marylhurst Pump Station is associated with tags starting with “1” (G-1-0, P-1-0, P-1-1, P-1-2, etc.) as indicated on Sheet E1.1.
