About this file
This is a Purchase Description document for a federal procurement of radiation detection hardware by the U.S. Army TMDE Activity (USATA).
The procurement requires the purchase of two specific detector systems to be delivered to the Army Primary Standards Laboratory (APSL) at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The first item is one Model 1056A-200 Ratemeter Digital Geiger-Mueller (GM) detector with specifications including a 5-decade range between 10² and 10⁵ mR/h, energy response of ±15% from 80 keV to 1.5 MeV, an integral analog preamplifier, remote location capability up to 2,000 feet, and an 8 µCi ³⁶Cl check source. This unit features an LCD graphical display, requires no external power at the detector location, is seismically tested, and has a life expectancy up to 10⁵ rads. The second item is one Model 897A-210 GM Detector System designed for use with the 955A GM Area Monitor, offering three selectable ranges covering 5 decades from 10⁻² to 10⁵ R/h, with ±15% energy response across 80 keV to 1.5 MeV. This detector system is seismically qualified, includes an integral preamp, allows remote ratemeter placement up to 1,700 feet via single cable connection, derives all power from the ratemeter, and includes an 8 µCi ³⁶Cl check source with approximately 10⁵ rads life expectancy. Delivery is required to Building 5435, Fowler Road, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898, Attn: Patrick Marine. The document specifies that equivalent non-brand name alternatives may be acceptable if they meet the stated technical specifications.
