The project includes the removal and replacement of inner and outer gates for the sallyport, including controls. New installation shall include heavy duty crash bars and shall review and design as required the possible installation of posts which would eliminate a straight run at the gate. Design shall provide a new system of gate operation that will not be affected by winter weather. The existing inspection pit in the sallyport shall remain. Gate replacement will require the design to allow for having 2 secure gates at all times, which should be anticipated to require including in the design having a third temporary sallyport swing gate and related fencing with flexzone protection during construction.
The gate replacement project shall comply with all MDOC requirements for security projects.
This work is located at an operating correctional facility, and work may be located in areas within the secure perimeter. Work within secure perimeter requires escorts coordinated with the Baraga Correctional Facility custody staff. Access in all locations is strictly controlled, monitored, and may be subject to delays due to both test and actual mobilizations by correctional personnel that necessitates work shutdown.
