About this file

This is a federal construction solicitation document for roadway reconstruction on the Many Glacier Road in Glacier County, Montana, approximately 4 miles west of Babb. The project encompasses approximately 2.55 miles of roadway reconstruction with an estimated price range between $20,000,000 and $30,000,000. The tentative solicitation date is Winter 2027, with a tentative fixed completion date of Summer 2029 for both the base scope and Option A (Utility Relocation). Work specifications follow FP-24 standards and are expressed in US customary units.

The scope of work is extensive and includes excavation and subgrade stabilization of approximately 15,100 cubic yards of roadway excavation and 26,000 cubic yards of subexcavation, with 25,700 cubic yards of select borrow placement. Soil erosion control measures include 4.0 acres of temporary turf establishment, 3,800 linear feet of fiber roll, and 120 fiber roll check dams. Slope reinforcement and retaining wall work comprises 300 to 5,800 cubic yards of placed riprap (Classes 2, 3, and 4), 3,300 cubic yards of mechanically-placed rock buttress, 47,300 linear feet of horizontal drain pipe, and geotechnical instrumentation including inclinometer casing and piezometers. Asphalt pavement work totals 8,500 tons of gyratory mix with various components including tack coat and antistrip additive. Incidental construction includes multiple pipe culverts ranging from 18 inches to 60 inches in diameter totaling 1,720 linear feet, underdrain systems, stone masonry work, equipment rental (dump trucks, loaders, graders, excavators), general labor (200 hours), turf establishment (9.5 acres), pavement markings totaling 63,100 linear feet, and extensive temporary traffic control measures including signage, markers, warning lights, flaggers (1,200 hours), and traffic control supervisors (300 days). Electrical system installation is also required under the base schedule.
