About this file

This document is a detailed specification for Preformed Thermoplastic Pavement Markings for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), outlining requirements for heat-fusible pavement marking materials. The specifications cover four primary categories of markings: Category 1 requires preheating the pavement, Category 2 does not require preheating, and Categories 3 and 4 involve primer sealers, with an optional Category 5 for enhanced flexibility markings. The markings must meet specific technical requirements, including a minimum retroreflectivity of 200 millicandelas per square meter per lux, thickness between 90-125 mils, and conformity to MDT's detailed drawing specifications.

The contract includes mandatory training provisions requiring the vendor to provide a factory representative for approximately four-hour training sessions at up to five mutually agreed locations, coordinated through MDT representative Jeremy Ward. Delivery will be F.O.B. destination to twelve different MDT office locations across Montana, with each office authorized to place individual orders. The vendor must respond within five working days to on-site service requests, and most communication will be handled via phone. The specifications emphasize the markings' durability, oil and grease imperviousness, immediate retroreflectivity, and ability to fuse with previously applied thermoplastic markings when heated with a propane torch.
