Additional Questions and Answers

1. Sheet S101 shows 5 bents of piles with a pile tip of -20 and sheet A110 shows 4 pile bents with a pile tip of -20, please clarify.

Answer: Follow the structural drawing (S101).

2. Sheet S001, paragraph 2.02, item D. indicates 3 probe piles. Will the probe piles be dynamically monitored? Does the pre-casting fabrication of the remaining pier piles have to wait until after the probe piles have been driven and analyzed? What lengths should these 3 probe piles be?

Answer: The intent of probe piles is to establish the pile lengths prior to casting them. The depth may vary from the given elevations based on actual soil conditions. However, in this case, the pile length are more controlled by lateral resistance than by gravity load capacity, so it is not anticipated that achieving the gravity load capacity will be a problem. The pile lengths given are minimum lengths and may not be shortened due to achieving resistance prior to reaching full depth.

3. Sheet S401 shows the splice dimension for the outside double stringers. Is there a splice connection (i.e. nails, screws, etc.)?

Answer: Use 2 fasteners each end and 2 at 12" in between. Screw or nail. #8 stainless steel screw or 8d stainless steel ring shank nails, minimum.

4. Sheet S402 sections show the simpson fasteners being attached to the HDPE wood with "s.s. fasteners". Can these be nails or screws?

Answer: #8 stainless steel screw or 8d stainless steel ring shank nails, minimum.
