About this file
This is a Questions for Industry document containing four questions related to a Protected Distribution System (PDS) fiber overhaul project at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska. The questions focus on technical specifications and implementation approaches for the project.
The questions specifically address: (1) the adequacy of existing 18" x 18" x 9" distribution boxes for housing MPO distribution panels, (2) feasibility of using existing piping for PDS fiber expansion versus installing new piping, (3) possibility of removing and reinstalling fiber on 2nd and 3rd floors simultaneously and estimated downtime, and (4) ability to segment work on the 1st floor to minimize downtime. These questions are part of an RFI with responses due by February 11, 2025, at 1000 Alaska Standard Time, to be submitted to Mr. Zachery Pullen via email.

Questions for Industry
1. The current distribution boxes installed in the ceilings throughout the building are 18” x 18” x 9”, will these boxes be large enough to install and house the distribution panels or break away kits for the MPO?
a. If not, what is the current commercial size standard for these assets?
2. To the best of your expertise/understanding of this service, would it be feasible to utilize existing piping to expand and overhaul the PDS fiber for this service or do you believe it would be necessary to install additional piping to accomplish this task?
3. Is it feasible to remove and reinstall fiber entirely at once for the 2nd and 3rd floor, and if so are you able to provide a rough estimate for the downtime required to perform the work?
4. The 1st floor will be the most difficult to coordinate. Will we be able to segment the work to accomplish the project in phases so that the downtime is very minimal?
