About this file
This is an email chain documenting Post-Consumer Recycled Content (PCRC) approval for a print services Request for Quotation (RFQ) issued by the City of Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus transit system. Robert McCall, a procurement official, sought approval from Karl Bruskotter regarding paper product purchases that meet the City's requirement of 30% minimum post-consumer recycled content. The RFQ covers specialized printing materials and collateral not currently available through the City Print Shop. McCall identified specific paper products from a pricing table included in the bid specifications that could meet the 30% PCRC requirement, and Bruskotter approved these highlighted items on October 8, 2025.
The email correspondence reflects the City's commitment to sustainability requirements in its procurement process, specifically the mandate that printed materials contain at least 30% post-consumer recycled content. The approval process indicates that many specialized materials specified in the RFQ were not readily available with the required recycled content percentage from standard suppliers, necessitating careful identification and approval of compliant paper products before bid solicitation. The exchange demonstrates internal coordination between procurement and approval authority to ensure bidders would be evaluated against realistic specifications that could be met by vendors while maintaining environmental standards.

Hello Robert, I’m doing fine. Hope things are going well with you.
Yes, the highlighted paper product purchases with 30% PCRC looks good to me.
Thanks for running it by me.

Hello Karl, I hope you've been well!
Big Blue Bus plans to issue another RFQ for general printing services. Many of the materials outlined in the RFQ are specialized and not currently carried by the City Print Shop.
As a result, most of the materials are not readily available with the required minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled content (PCRC). However, I've identified some that are more widely available, and highlighted them in the following pricing table: Big Blue Bus - Print Services RFQ - Bid Specifications_FINAL.xlsx
When time allows, could you kindly review and approve the pricing table attached?
Thank you in advance for your review! Please let me know if you have any questions.
-Robert
