About this file
Summary
This is a bid document package containing architectural and engineering drawings for the Palm Beach County Department of Airports' James L. Turnage Boulevard Bridge Repair project, designated as Bid No. PB 22-5 and Task I-21-PBI-A-053. The project involves repairs to ten bridges (Bridges 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 10) located at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida. The repair scope includes concrete spall and delamination repairs, crack sealing and epoxy injection, expansion joint rehabilitation, drainage grate cleaning and replacement, electrical conduit repairs, fire suppression system restoration, bridge deck coating application (Class 5 finish), friction course repairs, and methacrylate deck sealing. The project encompasses comprehensive quantity schedules detailing specific deficiencies for each bridge structure, including superstructure (beams, deck, diaphragms), substructure (piers, abutments, columns), and ancillary systems. Repair tables specify dimensions, materials, and repair methodologies for each identified deficiency. Traffic control plans have been developed for each bridge phase, with restrictions limiting lane closures to non-peak hours (Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM) and maximum closure lengths of 200 feet for Bridges 3 and 10. The document package includes signature sheets from professional engineers Saul Perez, P.E. No. 37337; Khalid Motiwala, P.E. No. 50633; and Claudia Patricia Echeverri-Parra, P.E. No. 84761, prepared by AECOM Technical Services, Inc.
The project specifications require compliance with the 2021 Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, the 2020 Florida Building Code (7th Edition), and FDOT-approved materials listed on the Approved Products List (APL). Contractor responsibilities include field verification of existing conditions, maintenance of deficiency records, coordination with existing utilities and attachments, mobilization, traffic control, and restoration of affected areas. Concrete repairs must achieve 50 percent of 28-day compressive strength before form removal, with specific curing requirements detailed in FDOT Specification Section 400. The contractor must obtain existing bridge drawings from the Palm Beach International Airport Department of Aviation prior to construction commencement and submit shop drawings for structural elements and utility repairs for engineer approval. Funding and award information are not included in this bid document package; however, all construction work must be coordinated with airport operations and approved by the Department of Airports staff, including the Project Manager, Project Engineer, Construction Coordinator, and Operations Manager.
