About this file
This document provides information on a forthcoming federal contract opportunity for passenger self-screening systems at aviation checkpoints. The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate and Transportation Security Administration are collaborating to develop and demonstrate passenger self-screening systems to improve security effectiveness and efficiency and enhance the passenger experience. An industry day will be held on February 12, 2020 to refine concepts and facilitate industry collaboration in meeting requirements. Questions on the draft statement of work are due by February 5, 2020, and responses to the request for information are due by February 21, 2020. The slides attached depict notional designs for potential self-screening system configurations to be considered.

Included in this document are notional renderings of Self-Screening security systems and configurations. These images are provided for vendor reference only, and are not intended to be representative of functional designs or proportions.
Self-Screening Design Concepts
National Self-Screening System Designs Below are four (4) notional renderings of potential concepts for Self-Screening systems.
Notional Self-Screening Metal Detection System
Vertical ovals/curved surfaces along walls are representative of a metal detection system.
Notional Self-Screening Passenger Imaging System
Flat/angled wall surfaces could house imaging systems or technologies
Notional Self-Screening Property Screening System A property screening/divestment system, shown as a horizontal curved surface with two handles, would open by pulling down (similar to an overhead bin in an aircraft), revealing a property loading surface at table height.
The design of this system is intended so that the act of opening and closing the door, along with the natural motion of divestment and loading property, would give passenger screening systems the range of motion necessary for complete imaging without the need for passengers to pause in a specific stance.
Notional Self-Screening Integrated Configuration
An arrangement of multiple Self-Screening systems installed in a checkpoint screening lane.
Notional Self-Screening Lane Configuration
An arrangement of a Self-Screening lane next to a rendering of a current checkpoint lane configuration. This design depicts eight (8) Self-Screening systems fitting into the same space as a traditional checkpoint lane.
