About this file

This document contains responses to questions regarding a tank inspection project at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada. The temporary fuel storage tanks will need to be self-contained and onsite the week prior to cleaning and inspections to allow time for fuel transfer. Equipment will be required for fuel transfer depending on the tank design. The tanks should be located inside the fuels yard next to an existing tank. While the installation can transfer fuel to float equipment in one hour if legs are lowered, it may take two hours depending on leg position. A few days following the work will allow removal of the estimated 100,000 gallons of remaining fuel from the temporary tanks.

Amendment 3- Additional Questions and Answers Here’s the responses to the requested questions.

1. For the facility to transfer fuel from the tanks, how long will the temporary fuel tanks need to be onsite prior to the cleaning and inspections?

a. The temporary tanks would need to be onsite and fully operational the week prior to the cleaning and inspections.

2. Are there any equipment/appurtenances that are required to be installed on the temporary fuel tanks in order for the facility to transfer fuel into and out of the temporary tanks?

a. Yes, there will be equipment required to be installed on the temporary tanks in order for us to transfer fuel into and out of the temp tanks. This equipment will be determined by the design of the temporary fuel tanks so whichever contractor is charged with installation and is familiar with on whatever design they decide on will have to answer this one.

3. Where does the facility want the temporary tanks located? How far from the tanks?

a. The temp tanks are to be located inside the fuels yard, in the open gravel area next to JAA tank3.

4. Will single wall temporary tanks in individual containments instead of self-contained?

a. The temporary tanks will need to be self-contained.

5. To confirm, the installation can transfer enough fuel to each tank to float the IFR’s in 1 hour from the temporary tanks?

a. Yes, if the legs are lowered to the operational height, it should only take an hour. If they are not, it will take two hours.

6. To confirm, the installation can transfer enough fuel to each tank to float the IFR’s in 1 hour from the temporary tanks?

a. It depends on what position the legs are in, so we will have to engage the repair crew on this one.

7. What is the estimated amount of time the facility will need to remove all fuel from the temporary storage tanks (100,000 gals est.)?

a. A few days the following week will be enough time to remove remaining fuel.
