About this file
This is a technical specification document for resinous urethane flooring work prepared by the City of West Sacramento for a recreation center locker room renovation project. The specification establishes requirements for trowel-applied monolithic urethane flooring systems with perimeter edging and integral ½-inch coved base. The work must conform to current adopted standards including ASTM testing methods, ADA accessibility requirements, 2016 California Building Code Chapter 8 for interior finishes, and 2016 California Fire Code provisions. The flooring system must achieve a minimum coefficient of friction of 0.6 on dry/level surfaces and 0.8 on wet/sloped surfaces per ASTM C1028, and must meet Class A interior finish requirements with a critical radiant flux rating of at least 0.22 watts per square centimeter (NFPA 253 Class II minimum) and smoke density not exceeding 450 per ASTM E662. Installation is restricted to temperatures between 60 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with temperature maintenance required 24 hours before, during, and 72 hours after installation.
The specification identifies Stonhard, Inc. of Maple Shade, New Jersey as the basis of design for the Stontec TRF resinous flooring system with a minimum thickness of 3/16 inches, comprised of penetrating primer, mortar, undercoat, and sealer components. Acceptable manufacturers may substitute products meeting equivalent specifications. The manufacturer must have minimum 10 years' experience with commercial poured epoxy flooring projects of comparable scale and complexity, while the installer must demonstrate minimum 5 years' experience with commercial, DSA-inspected projects and provide evidence of at least five completed comparable projects over two years old with client references. A field sample measuring minimum 4-by-5 feet must be installed for each color and finish variation, including an exploded view demonstrating surface preparation and installation procedures. Materials must be delivered factory-mixed and packaged in unopened containers and stored in dry, secure conditions. The manufacturer provides a one-year warranty from Substantial Completion covering defects in material and installation, with specified physical properties including tensile strength of 1,000 psi minimum and impact resistance exceeding 160 in/lbs.
