About this file
These are architectural and engineering drawings for replacing water softeners at the St. Cloud VA Hospital, dated January 28, 2025. The documents include a one-line water supply and distribution diagram (PS-00), a site photo plan sheet (PS-1), a control valve photo plan sheet (PS-2), a detailed drain line flow device photo (PS-3), and a gage/sample-meter piping photo plan sheet (PS-4).
The project involves removing and disposing of three existing water softener units, including tanks, bases, resin, drain lines, and accessories. Key requirements include installing new softener tanks in the same locations, modifying piping, installing new copper drain lines, new ball valves, flow control valves, and isolation valves, and adding new gages and sample piping. The contractor must provide new control units with cord connections to existing 120-volt outlets, remove existing CAT 5 control wiring, and ensure the replacement can be completed with minimal disruption to the VA hospital's water supply.

VHASTCPfeniM Text Box Plan Notes
1. Remove and dispose of the three water softener units. Include the tanks, bases, resin, drain line, flexible connectors, control valve and all appurtenances.
2. Install new softener tanks in the same locations as removed tanks. Level tanks as necessary per the manufacturers instructions. Leveling material, if necessary, must be of a durable material able to withstand salt and moisture with out degrading.
3. Modify piping to connect and accommodate contractor provided braided stainless steel flexible connections, control valve and existing CPVC brine piping. Install new CPVC isolation valve on the brine line for each softener.
4. Furnish and install new type L copper drain line. Provide new drain flow control as necessary. Provide new ball valves for drain line isolation of each softener. Fabricate and install a floor mounted galvanized uni-strut pipe support for the vertical section of drain line. Install additional hangers per code requirements.
5. Install new gages and gage/sample piping. Piping detail of this assembly is to be same as the existing. See plan photo PS-4. Fabricate and install a galvanized uni-strut pipe support for the vertical section of the gage sample pipes.
