About this file
This is an insurance requirements exhibit (OS-52) from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation establishing mandatory coverage standards for awarded contractors. The document specifies that contractors must obtain and maintain comprehensive insurance coverage throughout the entire contract term and any renewals or extensions, with coverage becoming effective prior to commencing work or entering Department of Transportation property. Required insurance types include workers' compensation insurance covering all employees as mandated by Commonwealth law, comprehensive general liability insurance, property damage insurance, and automobile liability insurance where applicable. The minimum coverage amounts are $250,000 per person and $1,000,000 per occurrence for both bodily injury (including death) and property damage, with all coverages provided on an occurrence basis.
The contractor must name the Commonwealth or Department of Transportation as an additional insured party on all policies and ensure that cancellation or modification of coverage cannot occur without at least thirty days' prior written notice to the Department, or fifteen days' notice in cases of nonpayment of premiums. The contractor is required to provide current certificates of insurance demonstrating compliance with all coverage and notification requirements, supplemented by relevant policy documents if necessary. The contractor must notify the Department immediately upon cancellation of any insurance coverage, and no work under the contract or entry onto Department property is permitted during any period when required insurance is not actively maintained. The contractor bears all costs associated with obtaining and maintaining the required insurance coverage.
